What you'll do
Join supportive and friendly teacher Tessa as you learn how to create a colourful weave darn to add new life to your holey knitwear you wish you could wear more. The perfect class if you're on the hunt for some sustainable things to do in London!
We all have a jumper with a hole in it, either from wear and tear at the elbows or from those pesky moths. It's sitting in a bag or on a shelf in the back of our wardrobe, or just worn when it's cold enough for a coat so no-one sees the holes!
During this class you will get:
- An understanding of how knitwear is constructed.
- Different types of yarns, and needles for darning.
- How to create different shapes and patterns for your darned area.
Bring them back into the light, show them some care and get creative with this weave darning class. Be fashionable in a planet-friendly way using visible mending that will show you how to sew up those holes so you can wear your favourite clothes again.
By the end of this class, you will have all the skills you need to breathe new life into your knitwear at home, and possibly even an item you mended in the class.
20% of the fee supports volunteers at the Islington Climate Centre.

Hi, I am here to teach you visible mending to re-story and repair your loved pieces. I will help you to celebrate the rips, stains, frays and moth holes that come from loving and wearing your favourite pieces of clothing. I will share my hand-embroidery, weaving and darning techniques to inspire you to create unique repairs. I have been working in the fashion industry for 25+ yrs and am passionate about keeping clothes in circulation.
