If you've tried basket making before, or if you've always wanted to try it, this class is a perfect way to immerse yourself in this ancient, mindful craft.
Using natural willow from ethical sources, you'll be guided through the process of creating a full basket in one session. The techniques in this class are specific to this style of basket, so it's a perfect add-on if you've learnt basket making before, or a great place to start if you're new to the craft.
The class is led by an experienced Willow Weaving practitioner, Monica Heeran, who has a wealth of knowledge to share with you and many years of teaching experience. The class is social and practical rather than theoretical. You're welcome to bring a notepad to take notes if this suits your learning style. All other materials are provided.
Basket making requires physical strength in your arms and hands, and some people take to it more quickly than others. Please note that we allow extra time in the class so that the pace is relaxed. Fast learners may complete the basket in a shorter amount of time.
The Remakery is committed to making Ecological Craft more accessible to the community. All our Thursday classes are subsidised to make them affordable and guarantee an income for local ecological practitioners.
For this class, we have two 50% discount codes available. These codes are aimed at people who face financial barriers to taking part, particularly if you're under 25 or unwaged. Please message us if you’d like to benefit from this offer. Alternatively, you could try our Thursday evening Willow Lampshade weaving, which has £5 tickets available.
  • ‘True Cost ticket’ allows us to keep the programme going. We appreciate the support of all the local crafters out there who come to try something new and meet like-minded people.
  • ‘Pay It Forward Ticket’ includes a donation towards Remakery running costs.
Please note: due to our accessible pricing and the high admin cost of rearranging classes, we don't offer refunds or reschedules for this class.

The Remakery started 10 years ago as a community space for repairing and upcycling furniture.
Since then we have developed several communal workshops for a range of eco-craft activities, and an exciting programme to link climate action with the empowerment of making with your hands.
Our practitioners have trained at London's top Arts schools, or developed their skills over years of self-discovery.
Our programme is curated by Alice Holloway; A researcher in regenerative fashion with The RCA and London Met university, and Innovate Creative Catalyst grant winning regenerative fashion designer.
The skills we share at the Remakery are proven to improve mental health, as well as change how class attendees see the world. We want everyone to feel empowered to make a difference, and we have seen how learning to make something is often in the first step towards changing something bigger.
