Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Lizzie, attended Jul 2026: I had my workshop with Jenny today and it was fantastic. I wasn't sure I'd be able to sew because I have limited use of my left arm but Jenny was so patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging that she made it completely easy. She explained everything clearly, adapted the lesson to help me and made the whole experience really good fun. I came away really happy and also with a new sewing machine and ready to go! Jenny is an excellent teacher and I can't recommend her and this lesson highly enough!

  • 5/5 from Jasmine Spence, attended May 2026: I had such a wonderful class with Jenny. She was a real expert and the time flew! She taught me the basics of setting up the sewing machine to the basic stitches all the way to sewing in a zipper. Really kind and patient and gave me some advice on my own personal sewing project that I’ll be working on using the skills I learned today. If you are considering taking this class- especially as an adult trying to learn a new skill I would highly recommend. I got this in the form of a gift card and it was super simple to redeem. Thanks again Jenny for the help today!
  • 5/5 from Ellen Pressly, attended May 2026: My teacher on Saturday was brilliant, just great! 5 out of 5 stars. She was helpful, friendly, efficient, considerate, going at the perfect pace and fitting everything she could possibly teach me into exactly one hour! I learnt a lot of important facts about sewing, and more. Highly recommended!
  • 4/5 from Jenny Poynter, attended May 2026: The teacher was excellent but she wasn’t told which machine we had and had to set up a different one. Therefore she had to read instructions as she hadn’t operated the children’s one before. The button hole operation was not accomplished as she didn’t know how to do it on that machine. Not her fault but a little disappointing. Everything else was good.My granddaughter came away quit confident of the rest.
  • 5/5 from Raquel Reinke da Costa, attended Apr 2026: Jenny is a lovely person, she was so patient and explained everything really well. I loved the class, she made me practice by the time she was explaining.
  • 5/5 from Stephanie Chan, attended Apr 2026: Had a beginner’s sewing machine class with the fabulous Jenny. It was a lot of fun with her - made learning very easy and explained things clearly. I really loved my class with her and cannot wait to have her for future lessons.
  • 5/5 from Anousha Ghafari, attended Apr 2026: Excellent class and wonderful teacher! Really helpful and you learn so much in your hour.
  • 5/5 from Annmarie Campbell, attended Apr 2026: I would consider myself a beginner. I just brought a new 19s sewing machine, so i needed to learn how to use it. I haven’t used a sewing machine in many, many years, so I needed to learn how to use this sewing machine. Booking a session online was not too bad, but my actual lesson with Jenny was amazing. She was very patient with me. Made me feel comfortable enough to ask questions and confident enough at the end to feel like I can make anything and everything once I returned home. The lesson was tailored towards me and what I wanted to learn rather than just following a script. My lesson was very hands on, which I personally loved. We covered how to set up the machine, how to select different stitches. Bind hems, standard hems, seams, zips, button holes, changing the foot. You name it we covered it; all in that one hour. By the end of my lesson I made a small like pencil case, that I didn’t even realise that I was making, until Jenny said “there you go” as she was turning it right way out after I finished the section regarding how sewing on a zip. 10/10 would highly recommend. If you want advice about how to do something regarding sewing, need a refresher or a beginner, book a session…. Jenny is your lady. Thank you Jenny. You are a true gem. Side note; Hobbycraft, your organisation is lucky to have Jenny. She is a true asset to your organisation and branch.

For someone who has never touched a sewing machine I came away feeling confident in knowing how to use one, though my technique needs some more work. She was able to explain things simply so I could follow her really well. I would say if you're nervous about learning a new skill with a sewing machine, this is definitely the class to take. • 5/5 from Emma Knight, attended Oct 2025: My teacher was Jenny at the Wimbledon shop & she was amazing! I already had a sewing machine & used YouTube videos, as an absolute beginner, to set up the machine but couldn't understand why it wouldn't stitch properly or even stay threaded I was doing so many things wrong & didn't know it! Jenny took me through every step: bobbin making, threading top & bottom, which stitch for which project, sewing control & so much more, slowly with patience, care and humour. By the end of our hour I could thread the machine, straight stitch, sew corners & was shown how to stop fabric fraying & more. Jenny gave me the confidence to practice at home & know how to get better. As a complete beginner my hour with Jenny was essential. She showed me how to do everything the right way that no YouTube video had. I was very nervous but Jenny put me at ease straight away, was easy to talk to and didn't mind how many times we went over the same thing. It your having trouble or just want to learn the basics before you buy a machine, this class is a must. Thank you Jenny I can't wait to pop in & show you my first finished project!
