Choose & Confirm Your Design

Choose & Confirm Your Design

Preferably at least 24 hours before your workshop, choose your design and confirm it with our team. We’ll check that your chosen design is suitable for tufting and can guide you if any adjustments are needed. Some designs work better than others, so we’re happy to help you choose something that will look great as a finished rug and is achievable during your session.

We Prepare Your Canvas

We Prepare Your Canvas

Before you arrive, our team will prepare your tufting canvas and draw your confirmed design onto it. This means everything is ready for you to start creating when you arrive.

Safety Briefing & Tufting Gun Introduction

Safety Briefing & Tufting Gun Introduction

Your workshop begins with a safety briefing and an introduction to the tufting gun.

We’ll show you how to hold and control the gun, apply the correct pressure and move it safely across the canvas. You’ll also have an opportunity to practise before starting your actual rug. You will also learn how to use a threader.

Tuft the Outlines

Tuft the Outlines

Once you’re comfortable with the tufting gun, it’s time to start your rug!

You’ll begin by tufting the outlines of your design. This creates the shape and definition of your piece and gives you a clear guide for filling in the different sections.

Fill Your Design with Colour

Fill Your Design with Colour

Next, you’ll start filling in your design with your chosen yarn colours.

Working section by section, you’ll gradually see your design come to life as the canvas fills with colour and texture.

Apply the Adhesive and Add the Backing

Apply the Adhesive and Add the Backing

If you finish tufting in good time and there is enough time remaining in the workshop, adhesive is applied evenly to the back of your rug. This secures the tufted yarn firmly in place before the backing is added. The backing is applied to the rug and carefully smoothed out with a spatula to create an even finish.

Don’t worry if you don’t reach this stage during your session - our team will complete it for you afterwards.

Professional Studio Finishing

Professional Studio Finishing

After the workshop, your rug is taken to our studio for the final finishing process.

We allow the rug to dry properly before shaving and contouring it. This helps even out the surface, sharpen the details of your design and give your handmade rug its polished final look including contouring which creates a 3D effect on a rug.

Collect Your Finished Rug

Collect Your Finished Rug

Your finished rug will be ready approximately 7–10 days after your workshop.

Once it’s ready, you can collect your rug from us, or we can arrange to have it shipped directly to you.

In this exciting tufting class, you will dive into the wonderful world of rug-making and learn how to create your very own masterpiece to take home. Discover the art of tufting - a fun and creative activity that allows you to express your unique style and individuality.
During the workshop, you will learn how to use a tufting gun. We will explain how much pressure to apply to the fabric, how to follow the design, outline the contours, and fill them with colour on a 60x60cm tufting frame. Additionally, we will glue the rug and secure the backing. The finished piece will be ready for pickup within a week after drying and trimming! Alternatively, you can book our Rug Shaving Workshop to complete your piece on your own.
Don't worry if you're new to tufting; this workshop is designed for beginners and will gently guide you through the process step by step. You'll work with high-quality materials and learn various techniques to create a beautiful rug that reflects your personality.
Expect a hands-on experience that will spark your creativity and leave you feeling accomplished. By the end of the class, you'll have a one-of-a-kind rug to decorate your home or gift to a loved one, adding a personal touch to any space. Join us for this inspiring workshop and unleash your inner artist through the art of rug tufting.

  • 5/5 from Ochini Kazakova, attended Sep 2026: I'm a busy mum so I went during the week. I had a wonderful time, the teacher was ready to help but also let me get on with it. Tufting my own rug while music played, it was the ultimate me time experience for a arty person like me. I'm so excited to receive my rug once it's trimmed. Thank you!

  • 4/5 from Juhara, attended Sep 2026: Nina was great, she seemed a bit shaky/nervous at the start. Bit I think she explained the tools very well and what to expect by the end of ghe session. She would go around checking our progress throughout the session which felt reassuring. It was really exciting seeing the rug come together on the other side of the canvas, it felt amazing. Excited to see my finished product soon.
  • 5/5 from Adam Jamieson, attended Aug 2026: Nina from Artventurous was great. She explained everything clearly, and took time to give advice on the tufting. We helpfully had picked a fairly simple picture, and this really helped. 2 hours flew past. Communication was excellent and I'd highly recommend it as a fun activity for a couple of hours. Good for adults & children alike.

The Story of Artventurous: From Rug Making to Connecting London Through Creativity
It all started as a hobby—rug making was my way of unwinding, experimenting with textures and colours. But what began as a personal passion soon turned into something more when friends started asking where they could get one of my rugs. I thought, “Why not turn this into a business?” So, I set up an online shop, and before I knew it, my rugs started gaining a following.
As my business grew, I realised I wanted to do more than just sell. I wanted to connect people. That’s when I opened my tufting studio and decided to call it Puns and Rugs—because, let's face it, I tuft funny phrases on my rugs! Picture stepping into a room and seeing a rug that says, “Dramatic Exit ->”. It’s all about blending creativity with humour, and who doesn’t love a good pun?
But it’s not just about rugs—I wanted to create a space where Londoners could come together and share in the joy of making things. That’s why I started offering workshops, from rug making to jewellery design and bag charm crafting. It’s about teaching skills, yes, but also about building connections and creating something meaningful together. It is Artventurous.
What most people don’t know is that I used to teach arts and crafts before launching my business. I enjoy helping people tap into their own creativity, whether it’s through rug making, jewellery crafting, or painting. There were definitely moments of doubt, but I kept going because I knew this journey was about more than just creating art—it was about bringing people together through creativity and laughter.
I’ve been honing my craft for several years now, and while I don’t have decades of experience, I’ve certainly learned a lot along the way. What started as a simple hobby quickly turned into a full-time business, and that hands-on experience has taught me more than any classroom could.
Our mission is simple: connect, create, and have fun. Whether you’re making a punny rug or designing a bag charm, there’s a place for you here. So, if you’re in London and want to try something new, come join me in the studio! Let’s create something special together.
