Wet Felt Making Experience

Make a day of it! Magic an amorphous mass of loose fibers into both a 2D felt image and a 3D vessel.

7.5 hours Class size 1 to 2 guests

£115 - £230 (£230 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £115/guest for 2 guests. £50 per class surcharge applies for private classes) (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

I am now running intimate private workshops tailored to your requirements for 1 or 2 people in central London (SW7). Get in touch to find a mutually available date.
Public workshops take place at a central Berwick location on one day* (up to six and a half hour workshop plus an hour break). These workshops need a minimum of 3 people to run. As ever, you will be fuelled by teas and/or coffee and biscuits. (If it's a private session for a special occasion, do let me know, and I'll bake a cake!)
In the morning, you will be guided through how to make up to an A3 flat piece of felt, blend colours, create a simple pictorial or abstract image, and choose and prepare your fibres for your 3D vessel. If there’s time, we’ll also go over how to make beads.
In the afternoon, you will be guided through how to use a resist** to make a small, seam-free 3D vessel which you can use as a little plant pot, to keep jewellery safe, or simply as a decorative object!
Wet felt making is a simple process (once you know how) made up of a series of repetitive actions. Many people find it relaxing, and some a stress buster. But, elements of felt making are quite vigorous and very hands-on. If you have arthritis in your hands, you may find parts of the process challenging. That being said, it’s not stopped anybody before, and Heather is very happy to help you with vigorous parts of the process.
* We'll take an hour's break halfway through for a light lunch when you can either pop to one of Camberwell's local cafes or if you prefer, bring a pack-up.
**A "resist" is a piece of cloth or other material that stops the wool fibres from one set of layers felting to those below.
What you'll get
  • All materials and equipment are included. By the end of the day, you should have completed a 2D and 3D wet felted work to take away. You'll also understand the first principles of wet felting.
  • A comprehensive How-To PDF will be emailed to you at the end of the course, but I can give you paper and a pencil if you like making notes on the day.
Knowledge required
For beginners and those occasional wet felters who want to take advantage of Heather's wide range of quality Merino wool tops colours and the opportunity to complete a larger project.
What to bring
Please bring your creativity and an open mind. Absolutely everything else is included.
If possible, please arrive no more than 10 minutes early to settle in with refreshments for a prompt workshop start.
