Spend three creative hours turning your own design into a custom 40 × 40 cm tufted rug at Cheeky Studio, our premium tufting studio in Hackney Wick, East London.
This workshop is designed for complete beginners, but the result is made to feel polished, personal and worth keeping. You do not need any previous tufting experience or drawing skills. Send us your design before the class and we’ll prepare it on your canvas in advance, so you can arrive, choose your colours and start tufting with confidence.
To make the experience even more relaxed, each guest will also receive one complimentary Sonic Tonics drink to enjoy during the workshop. Pick a flavour, settle in, sip while you tuft, and enjoy a playful creative session in our cosy London studio.
If your design needs adjusting for the best tufting result, our team can guide you before the session. Clear shapes, bold lines and thoughtful colour choices usually work best, and we’ll help make your idea more suitable for rug making where needed.
During the workshop, our team stays close from start to finish. We do not just give you a quick demo and leave you to figure it out alone. We help with technique, rethreading, colour changes, tricky areas and anything else you need along the way.
You’ll use professional tufting equipment, including cut-pile and loop-pile tufting tools depending on your design, and choose from over 115 colours of cheekyarn, our own GRS-certified yarn made from 100% recycled material.
Once the tufting is done, we take care of the final trimming, glueing, backing and shaping. That professional finishing process is what helps your piece feel less like a practice project and more like an actual rug you’ll want to display at home.
And if you do not finish every part during the session, don’t worry. We’ll help complete the final details and arrange collection or delivery, so you still receive a finished rug.

None. This workshop is designed for complete beginners. We’ll teach you how to use the tufting gun safely and guide you through the whole process step by step.
What to bring
Nothing is required on the day.
If you would like to use your own design, please send it to us at least 24 hours before the workshop so we can prepare it in advance.
A reference image, drawing, logo, character, simple artwork or clear idea is enough. For the best result, we recommend designs with clear shapes, bold lines and not too much tiny detail.

An adult must accompany any attending kids (the adult may observe for free).

Can I create my own design?
Yes. You are welcome to tuft your own design. Please send it to us at least 24 hours before the workshop so we can prepare it on your canvas in advance.
Do I need to sketch the design myself?
No. You do not need drawing skills. A reference image or clear idea is enough, and we can guide you if needed.
What kind of design works best for beginners?

Yes. Most guests are complete beginners, and our team will guide you throughout the session.
Can I make my own personal artwork into a rug?
Absolutely. Many guests turn their own ideas, artwork, or meaningful designs into tufted rugs.
Can I collect my rug on the same day?
Your rug needs professional finishing after the session, so same-day collection is not usually available. We will let you know when it is ready, or it can be delivered.

The studio was sunshiney, and the vibes encouraging and relaxed. Explanations were clear, and there was an ideal balance between help being provided when required whilst also ensuring you actually learned a new skill. We were surprised and delighted by how professional our finished products were; sometimes crafting classes are fun but you end up with a mess that goes straight in the bin...in contrast, our rugs went straight into proud use in our house!

Keep it really simple and know what colours you would like to use. The teachers were very attentive and helpful

The teachers are very attentive and help you through any issues you have, and you leave wanting to go back again the next day for more. So creative and so satisfying!

The location was very easy to get too. I learnt how to thread the tufting gun and was able to get a hang of it within the first hour. Being able to bring my design to life as a rug was fulfilling. Definitely a good value for money. It's a wonderful studio with a great choice of colours.

It was a very intimate activity (just two) and the teacher was extremely attentive and helpful. We quickly got the hang of it and will definitely be going back for more. It may seem expensive but the effort and support that goes into it makes it very much worth it!

Jeenie helped us set up in no time and was supportive and knowledgeable when it came down to dealing with the ins and outs of getting started and when we got stuck with the progress. I was a bit worried we wouldn't have time to finish our designs, but we had plenty of time left. I recommend this workshop to anyone trying to do something different and DIY. Can't wait to pick up our rugs!

The teacher was really friendly and approachable and made learning how to use the tufting gun really simple. We submitted our designs in an electronic form a day before and all of the equipment along with lots of different coloured yarn were available. Overall a super fun day out and would highly recommend

There were a lot more colour threads than I imagined, and was a lot easier than I expected, it was something I would definitely try again. Our teacher gave us good pointers and help rethreading etc and was very friendly. The venue wasn’t what I expected and it is quite out of the way from public transport but it worked well for what we were doing.
