2 hours Class size 3 to 30 guests

£60 (£70 per class surcharge applies for private classes) (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Shibori (しぼり/絞り) (from the verb root "shiboru" – "to wring, squeeze or press") is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique that produces a number of different repetitive patterns on fabric. In this session, we will learn about Itajime Shibori exploring different ways of tying, pinching, and folding fabrics to get a range of exciting geometric patterns.
We will also learn how to extract pigments from food and garden waste by making a dye bath to dye our shiboris in them.
I will be showing some samples, giving some natural dye and shibori tips, and sharing some basic - and not so much! - information regarding natural dyes, including how to prepare fabrics for dyeing and what fibres best take natural pigments.
This is a family-friendly workshop, and beginners as well as more experienced natural dyers are welcome to join.
  • Experience creative wellbeing through hands-on making and sensory engagement with natural materials
  • Strengthen collaboration and connection through shared creative exploration
  • Develop awareness of sustainable materials and textile reuse
  • Enjoy a screen-free creative break that supports relaxation and focus
  • Leave with handmade textile pieces and inspiration for sustainable creative practices

I am a visual artist and arts educator working with colour, textiles, minerals, clay, seeds, flowers and pigments that I carefully gather from plants around me and nearby.
I specialise in sustainable wellbeing workshops and creative mindful sessions for community groups, CPD and staff training for small companies and institutions.
I have been working with natural dyes since 2019 and have an extensive experience planning and delivering creative and engaging sustainable workshops for people of all ages and many backgrounds.
I see these experiences as tools for learning but also for grounding and reflection that aim to connect with ourselves and with others in a supportive, non judgemental safe space. Interested in mental health and wellbeing, I nurture environments where people can reach a deeper level of understanding of their feelings and emotions, allowing time for play and exploration with a focus on the process of making and collective learning.
