Learn how to create your very own custom rug at this tufting workshop at Laoxa in Walthamstow. In this hands-on session, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of making a unique rug from a design of your choice.
Create your own custom tufted rug (up to approximately 50cm, depending on your design and shape). Each piece is individually crafted and fully guided throughout the session, allowing you to explore your creativity while producing a substantial, high-quality finished piece.
Before the workshop, you simply send your chosen design to the studio so everything can be prepared for you on the day.
During the session, you’ll learn how to operate a tufting gun, work with your selected colours, and professionally finish your rug so it’s ready to take home.

Please note: This workshop takes place in a covered, open-sided venue. While sheltered and heated, it is not fully enclosed and can feel cool during colder or rainy weather, so we recommend dressing warmly for comfort.

Can you provide important information?
Please note: This workshop takes place in a covered, open-sided venue (a large gazebo-style space). While it is fully sheltered from rain and has overhead heaters, it is not fully enclosed like a traditional indoor room. During colder months, the space can feel cool, so we strongly recommend dressing warmly for comfort.

Lucy is a gifted teacher, very warm and encouraging and passionate about making sure you go home with your rug completed! She takes you through all the steps and shows you lots tips and tricks from the very beginning to the very end of the process, but making sure that you learn to do it yourself, hands-on! We had several whatsapps about making sure my design would work and choosing colours. She has a maximum of only two students (I was lucky enough to be solo!) so loads of guidance and help all the way through., which is pretty amazing. She insisted on running over a bit so that I would go home with my first ever rug fully backed and only needing a trim (which she had showed me how to do). Really great value for money and such a fun, fulfilling afternoon. Hugely recommended for your first tufting experience!

From Thursday 11th September, join me every week at CRATE, Walthamstow for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own 40cm x 40cm mini rug - perfect to display, gift, or treasure forever.
