Are you a DimSum lover? Learn to make them yourself at this fun cooking class in London! Guided by expert Chinese cooking teachers, Hanna and Simon, you'll learn to make steamed prawn dumplings and eat them at your class or take them home to share with friends and family.
You will be in a spacious air-conditioned shop and small class, often private class if booked in weekdays. You will get full attention from chef tutors and answer all your questions.
The steamed prawn dumplings, aka Har Gaw/HauKau/Ha Gow in Cantonese, Chinese Mandarin is XiaJia. They have a transparent pastry topping, typical of premium Chinese DimSum. This kind of dumpling is ideal to cook for special occasions!
As part of this hands-on London cooking class, you will learn to:
Make the dumpling pastry from scratch.
Prepare your fillings.
Wrap your dumplings.
Cook your creations to perfection.
Eat them all (or take them home!).
Your tutor will explain all the techniques you need to make your delicious dumplings. This cooking class requires some prior knowledge of dumpling making. If you fancy learning some basic skills first, check out your teacher's beginner classes.
After this London cooking class, you will have a batch of delicious dumplings to eat or take home.
Add-on Class
All Add-ons are in the same class. It is to save your time and make the class more fun. Please allow extra time, 30 minutes to 1 hour. You can always contact us before booking to find out more details.
Strongly suggesting you join a dumpling making class first. You will need be confident to make dumplings before learning this steamed ones. You can find the class by searching Simon Wang in ClassBento.
You can book add-on dumpling class with this Har Gow class together. It is cheaper than book them separately.
You can also add Advanced Dimsum. You will learn to make colourful dumplings. See the photo of pink flower dumplings.
You can also learn how to sharpen your kitchen knives. Bring one in if safe to do so.
Allergy information:
Gluten is necessary. WHEAT starch is required to mix with rice flour to make the pastry.
Pork lard is used in the fillings of these dumplings. This element of the recipe can be removed if required. Let your teacher know if you require this when you book. However it might affect the presentation.
No egg used in the class.
Sesame can be avoided.
Prawn is an essential ingredient in the classic dumplings made in this cooking class.
It is possible to make vegetarian fillings. However it is somehow more difficult than the classic prawn filling.
If you have any other allergies or dietary requirements, let your teacher know when you book.

If you have long nails, you may need to trim them in advance of your cooking class to ensure you're able to wrap your dumplings with ease.
This class can be held online as well as at client site. Please send a message to the teacher to discuss the details.

Refund and Reschedule
Please book the date you definitely can attend to help other customers' bookings.
There is no refund for cancellation.
Later than 15 minutes to agreed time will see booking cancelled with no refund or reschedule.
Possibility of Reschedule is very limited and will be charged £50 per booking.

Some dumpling making skills are helpful but not essential. You can choose add-on to learn making normal dumplings in the same class. It will give the step-by-step progress to the special ones.
Children under 18 are welcome as long as with paid adults. Every one requires a ticket. Children are learning better when parents participate.
A person under 18 cannot attend the class alone. We will ask for valid IDs if you look very young. You class will be cancelled without refund if failed to provide proofs. It is for your safety and required by insurance policy. If we don't follow it, this class will not be allowed to carry on. Thank you for your understanding.

Very friendly tutor Hanna welcome us with free drinks. She introduced the class then explained the ingredients and steps planned for the class.
We followed her instructions and feel confident making steamed prawn dumplings from scratch.

This is a great cooking class and experience.
Now we understand the difference between so many types of DimSum. We also had deep knowledge in Dumpling or JiaoZi in Chinese.
Simon and Hannah are very patient as we started with mess. With their help, we made good progress and had delicious steamed prawn dumplings at the end.
