In this Asian cooking class in London, you will learn how to make three different types of buns; bao buns, steamed buns and pan-fried buns.

Bao buns are increasingly popular in the UK with thanks to bao restaurants. Not only are they delicious, but they're also easy to make at home for a quick snack or party food.

Steamed buns are a popular dish in Chinese dim sum history along with pan-fried buns. In this dim sum cooking class, you will learn to make tasty fillings and learn intricate bun-wrapping skills.

You'll learn:

  • Make flour dough.
  • Roll flour dough to the desired shape.
  • Prepare wrappings.
  • Prepare mince.
  • Wrap buns.
  • Cook buns.
  • Eat buns.

Add-on Classes
  • It is a good value to select add-on classes since you already travelled to us. Plus you receive a huge discount comparing to book the classes separately.
  • If you would like to learn more flavours, you can add sweet buns class. You will make running custard buns and red bean buns.
  • Also add Xiao Long Bao class, the mini steamed buns with soup inside, if you want to learn the classic steamed mini buns at the same time.
  • Additional classes require extra time, please allow extra 30 minutes to 1 hour for each add-on classes.

At the end of this deliciously fun London cooking class, you'll have three homemade Asian-style buns to dig into along with the skills and know-how you need to make more!

Small classes and spacious shop. More often gets private class if booking in weekdays.

  • If you have special dietary or allergy requirements, please get in touch with your teacher after booking your class.
  • All ages are welcome as long as children are accompanied by a paid adult.
  • Vegan option is available.

Suitable for

This class is great for individuals and couples as well as for a team building activity, birthday, hen do or stag do.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 10 years old). An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.

This would also be a nice gift for her, gift for mum or anniversary gift.


Simon Wang is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and adheres to COVID-19 government guidelines. They won't run this class if they've had a continuous cough, a high temperature, or a loss of or change in their normal sense of taste or smell, in the last 14 days.

You can book up to 6 persons in one class. The shop is big enough to give comfort distances between each other. It is well ventilate as well.

No extra charge for private classes to make you comfortable.

We had two jabs and self-tests in weekly basis.

We ask all guests to wear masks unless drink or eat.

Washing facility is free to use all the time.

Free to reschedule if you and close contacts tests positive or showing some symptoms.

We are a wife-and-husband team running a small shop called Oriental Food in North London. Our little shop sells cooking ingredients from China, Japan and Korea – as well as other Asian countries!

As the shop is not big enough to be a one-stop shopping destination, we like to curate the food and ingredients we sell and focus on introducing only the ingredients we love to the local community.

As we both have a passion for cooking and sharing our love of food with others, we started to cook our own dishes to sell in our shop. If customers like the dish, we love showing them the ingredients that have been used from our shop!

As the dishes got increasingly popular, we started to sell freshly prepared Bentos and even started doing local delivery (find us on UberEats and Deliveroo).

More and more people came to us to ask how we cook our dishes and that's how our fun and friendly cooking classes and tasting experiences were born! Come along and let us share with you our authentic cooking techniques as well as modern culinary trends. That's right, you can make the perfect Chinese, Japanese and Korean food too!

We really enjoyed the class with Simon and Hannah. They are very kind, lovely teachers, and sprinkle in all kinds of extra interesting details about food and culture of Shanghai. You can’t do so much in 90 mins, so a lot was prepared, but we learned some good bao preparation techniques and really enjoyed eating our work at the end! When we come back we will do a longer class for sure.

Hannah and Simon were brilliant teachers, incredibly patient and friendly. It was just me in the class and they filled the room with their warmth and knowledge, answering all my questions and stepping in to help when I needed some extra guidance. They made me feel very at home, offering delicious green tea and homemade condiments to go with our buns. The venue was very clean and all the equipment made the class very easily to follow. The class was okay but sadly for me not worth the £70. On the website it says that you will make the dough and prepare the filling etc. i didn’t do any of that as the dough and filling (veggie) were both prepared for me, and all I did was put then in the buns. Don’t get me wrong I got to learn a new skill.
I was the only one there it was over in 50 minutes. Such a shame as I had received this as gift and was SO excited for it and really wanted to try out their tofu class, maybe I will, let’s see.
Also I think there’s an error on the website as I chose a 1:30 class and then it clashed with another class at the same time and was asked if I can be moved to 4:30.

A really good interactive session. Everything was provided and organised before hand . You just have to turn up . The trainer was very welcoming and helped us throughout the process. The class was such a good time. I can’t wait to try the recipes now that I know the secret ingredient to making proper Chinese dumplings…it’s Chinese dumpling flour…don’t tell anyone, okay?

The instructors were so good and kind. I kept messing it up and they kept encouraged me to try again and with their help I kept getting better. They talked to me all about the other ingredients, too. The excess food that we didn't eat at the time, we took home and our family loved it.
My only development point is that it would be good just to know a little more about the preparation of the doughs involved and to see that being done. It was OK being presented with the ingredients in a ready to go state, but it sort of assumes you can make the dough and that, to me, would still be a challenge.
All in all however, a really excellent hour and three quarters of instruction. Will most likely go back and do some more corses.
