I went to this pottery taster class for an experience and it was great. The tutor was so lovely and the way she showed us step by step was really good. It's very easy understanding especially with her own way of teaching let us all understand how to do it in a right and efficient way. It's a never failed pottery if you follow exactly what she showed you. It was a really nice experience I really enjoyed it. I would love to go back again do some more pots.

I booked this pottery taster experience as a birthday treat for my friend. The venue was easy to find and Malory, who took the class, was very welcoming, friendly and put us all at ease straight away. There's only a maximum of 4 'students' in a class so we had ample of 1-2-1 time with Malory, who after explaining the principals of pottery making, guided us unrushed through each stage of the hands-on experience of making our pots. It was a fascinating class that I thoroughly recommend as not only do you have a lot of hands-on pottery time using the wheel and various techniques using clay, but you also experience how potters studio runs. We're looking forward to picking up our fired and glazed pots. Thanks Malory and Columbia Road Clay!

Marianna Birmpa Apr 2022

The class was amazing, and exceeded all my expectations. Great value for money. Our teacher explained everything thoroughly and she was very calm and nice. We only had time to learn the very basics but we managed to create our own pots at the end of the lesson, with the help of our teacher of course. We were only 4 people in the class which made it comfortable and easy to ask questions and be able to have some one to one time with the teacher as well!

My boyfriend and I had a great time, thank you very much.

We learnt new techniques and the teacher was both very precise and patient in teaching us the required skills. The class was the right size as well, 4 people, to have enough supervision time.

We cannot wait to get our pottery pots back in four weeks!

We will definitely try that again ! I recommend it

It was a fab way to learn a little about pot throwing. It started with a 20 min intro, our teacher outlined the materials we would use, a bit of the history and how the class would run. There was then a 20 min demo, followed by an hour of having a go. Then about 20 mins of cleaning up. Our efforts will be ready in about a month. Notification via Instagram or mailing list.

My partner and I both had a great time. Malorie was a great teacher and she was able to provide great 1-1 support. It was helpful understanding why we were doing what we were doing and we came out of it a lot more knowledgable. The workshop is cosy but more than enough space for a class of four. Would definitely recommend even if you are an absolute beginner.

Brenda Kelly Mar 2022

It was such a fun class. Akiko was a lovely teacher, creating an encouraging and relaxing space. Although the skills are tricky, my fellow classmate and I both created pots that will be fired and glazed for us, which felt like a real achievement! It was an incredibly relaxing and mindful way to spend a couple of hours in these turbulent times.

Excellent class! Our teacher Sophie was extremely professional and friendly. Sophie explained a little about clay and the clay throwing process before giving us a demonstration on the wheel. Then it was our turn to try and shape our clay. Sophie was extremely helpful in giving us feedback and help on our pieces and by the end we all had our own nice little clay pot! All the materials and equipment were provided. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and can't wait to come back again!

Connor Martin Jan 2022

This class was excellent and a great introduction to throwing. Myself and my girlfriend had great fun and we both came out with something which actually looked decent haha. This was all down to Mallory though as she was an excellent teacher and made sure we were all on track. That's also another main benefit of booking this class over others, the classes are max a group of 4 so you get a lot of one on one time, which is ideal.

Would highly recommend.

Lovely class & great intro to pottery. Covered all of the basics in enough detail and then got to try our hand at the wheel with solid and helpful guidance and lots of 1-2-1 attention, creating a lovely pot.
It was just a shame we didn’t have more time to keep practising what we’d learnt as 2 hours flies by!

Louisa Esposito Jan 2022

Bought as a present for my mum for Christmas. We both absolutely loved the class and the teacher was really lovely and taught us a lot of information in the 2 hours. Got plenty of practice on the wheel and something to collect at the end of it. Small class size of 4 meant we all got 1:1 time and therefore we all managed to create good quality pots. I have been highly recommending this to friends.

Katherine Docherty Jan 2022

A brilliant and insightful taster session into throwing, a really fun afternoon, would highly reccomend.

Michael Green Jan 2022

The venue was very well organised and the equipment was well maintained.
The class was good value for money and I learned some basic techniques that I have long wanted to learn.

Altogether excellent!

Maia Havas Jan 2022

I thoroughly enjoyed this class, Akiko was so lovely and encouraging, and such a good teacher. It was a great introduction to wheel throwing, the class started with an explanation of the clay itself, and then a demonstration by the teacher. We then all got the chance to make one piece, experimenting with the different techniques. It was an amazing experience :)

Amy Priestley Jan 2022

Lovely teachers who were very helpful and knowledgeable. The class started with an intro to pottery and clay, before a demo on the wheel. We then each had our own pottery wheel and clay to start making. The teachers were so helpful and patient- if they spotted you getting into trouble they’d step in and help before your pot collapsed. I bought this as a birthday gift/fun ‘couples’ activity and am so glad I did!

Yosser Shamki Dec 2021

The instructor was great, she really ensured we had a good understanding of what we were doing and why. She was patient and attentive and pushed us all to get the most out of the session. The studio is quite small, only big enough for four people so you get lots of hands on attention from the instructor. We actually spent the first half of the session learning about the clay, how it works and watching the instructor demonstrate basic throwing techniques. In the time we had left, we all managed to make one piece. I’m sure if you are a little more experienced than a true beginner you would be able to throw more than one. I felt really encouraged to continue with the course as a whole. I can’t wait to pick up my piece but the actual experience of making it is more valuable to me.

Elizabeth Treble Dec 2021

Teacher was great and funny - made some nice big clay bits you don’t get to do in most classes

Shezah Salam Dec 2021

Mallory was an excellent teacher, this class was a brilliant introduction to pottery. It costs a bit more than other classes but it’s totally worth it due to the small class sizes and personalised attention you get - I messed up my pot several times but Mallory was always on hand to get me back on track and if you really mess up they even give you more clay to start again. I can imagine myself getting quite lost if it was a class of 14 and ending up not really learning anything. They spend a lot of time telling you about the theory though which I understand prepares you better when you get down to the throwing though I do think this could be a tad shorter to give us more time with the clay. All-in-all a great birthday treat for my husband!

The class was great, it was really fun learning something new, being able to do something with my hands and take home 2 beautiful pots made by me. I only wish it was longer, so we could try making bigger pots, I felt we had to rush a bit in the end. But apart from that it was an amazing experience

None of us had any experience with pottery, but our teacher guided us through the entire process from start to finish - she was very passionate and let us run with it (she did have to step in a few times and fixed our work even when we thought it was beyond saving!). The studio is brand new and super cute, and everything you need is provided. Would love to come back soon and experiment with some different shapes and techniques.
