Affordable Edinburgh experiences from £13

You don't need a big budget for a great Edinburgh workshop. With classes starting from just £13 for the Natural Lacquer Bookmark Workshop, there's plenty of choice at the lower end, too.

• A hands-on craft beats a shop-bought souvenir, every time. The Statement Bag Charm Making Class (from £15) and Herbal Sachet Making Workshop (from £19) both need zero experience.
• Crochet and sewing sit right at the affordable end. Beginner's Guide to Crochet (from £29) and Sewing Class: Drop-in (from £24) are two of the cheapest ways into a new hobby.
• Glass painting is a stylish, low-cost pick. The Glass Painting Workshop in Edinburgh (from £24) lets you design your own glassware to use every day.
• Most of these run right in the city, with a few just outside it. There's just as much choice in things to do in and around Edinburgh as there is in the centre, including options in Falkirk and Dalgety Bay.

The budget shouldn't limit a good workshop – these low-cost options prove some of the best Edinburgh experiences don't need a big spend.

Fun things to do in Edinburgh for couples

Edinburgh has plenty of creative classes built for two. Try a hands-on pottery class – the Wheel Throwing Class (from £65) or a Handbuilding Pottery Workshop (from £60) both work well for shaping something together. Prefer food? A cooking class like the Perfect Pasta Workshop (from £90) lets you master a new cuisine side by side, or keep it lighter with a Paint and Sip Class (from £32) and a glass of wine each.

For something to take home, try a DIY workshop – jewellery making, candle making, or a floral arrangement class like the Summer Flower Arranging Workshop (from £75) all end with a piece you both made. These classes give couples a shared project to focus on, rather than just another dinner reservation.
