Then comes the real fun – discovering how clay feels, how it behaves, and the golden rules of hand-building to set you up for success.You'll start with the pinch pot, the most ancient pottery technique there is. Your tutor will guide you through transforming a simple ball of clay into a beautiful, organic form using just your hands – perfect for building confidence and developing a real feel for the material.From there, you'll take your skills further with coil building. You'll roll, stack, and blend coils of clay to build walls, add height, and create more ambitious shapes. This is where your piece truly comes to life.Next comes the creative freedom – adding your own personality through texture, pattern, decorative details, or sculptural elements. Your tutor will show you simple tools and techniques to make your piece entirely yours.Before you leave, you'll choose your underglaze colour and finish, painting on the details you want. Your tutor will walk you through the options so you can picture exactly how your finished piece will look. Then you'll smooth and refine everything, sign the base, and your tutor will explain what happens next – how your work is dried, fired, and glazed ready for collection.Your finished creation will be kiln-fired and ready to collect within 3–4 weeks – a genuine keepsake you've made with your own hands.
