- Measure and prepare the decking area. You will need to create a solid foundation for your decking, there are many options which will help to prevent your decking from sinking into soft ground and keep the deck ventilated.
- Framing for the deck and suitable materials for this.
- Ground-level and elevated decks.
- Different options for deck materials, wood or composite.
- Laying the boards and patterns
- Options for fastenings
- Treatment for decks and maintenance
Your talented tutors will be on hand throughout the class to dispense tips and advice, and you'll leave brimming with knowledge and the confidence to get building your deck right away.

At the Great British Woodshop, students of all abilities are given a warm welcome at our large and fully tooled workshop in West Byfleet, Surrey.
Courses are run by woodworking craftsman and television presenter David Free. DRB certified, David has been practising woodwork for 40 years and has been teaching all ages for 20 of those. David is passionate about sharing his woodwork and DIY knowledge with others.
