£45 (£10 per class surcharge applies for private classes)
If you're interested in the history of Japanese culture and you'd like a hands-on way to learn more, come along to this painting class in Kingston-upon-Thames and learn about the gansai watercolour painting method.
In this workshop, you will learn about Japanese painting and its techniques, as well as create your own A5-sized artwork inspired by Iwasaki Tsunemasa's Honzo Zufu (本草図譜), a vast chronicle of botany from 18th and 19th century Japan.
Under the guidance of an experienced tutor, you'll learn more about the history of this technique before trying it yourself. You'll be taught how to use Japanese brushes, ink and Gansai paints (Japanese watercolour) on washi paper, and how to mount your artwork onto a wooden panel at the end of the session.
Don't worry if you're not an experienced artist, as you'll have all the help and support you need from your friendly instructor, who'll also be around to answer any questions you may have. You'll take home your beautiful painting along with all the skills and trivia you've learned throughout the session.
