What you'll do
Note: Basic Electrical Course is for the DIY homeowner and is not a basic electrician course.
If you've attended the previous part of this course and want to develop your skills further, his DIY workshop is the ideal place to learn all about home electrical maintenance. Building on the theory from the first part, you will learn practical skills, including:
- Wiring plugs and sockets
- Wiring for lighting and power
- Testing circuits and continuity
- Measuring voltage and current
- Soldering
- Stripping cables
- Heatshrink and how to use it
- Locating cables with a tone generator
- Test equipment
- Fault finding techniques
- Dealing with armoured cable
- Termination methods and connectors
Your tutor will be on hand throughout the class to dispense tips and advice, and you'll have access to all the tools and equipment you need to learn about and practice these useful skills.

At the Great British Woodshop, students of all abilities are given a warm welcome at our large and fully tooled workshop in West Byfleet, Surrey.
Courses are run by woodworking craftsman and television presenter David Free. DRB certified, David has been practising woodwork for 40 years and has been teaching all ages for 20 of those. David is passionate about sharing his woodwork and DIY knowledge with others.
