Half-day 3-hour class for beginners.
Learn to strip, pad, and cover a dining chair seat. This class is designed to teach you how to:
Recover your chair seat
To replace the foam, wadding and fabric and you re-upholster your own seat. If you do not have a chair, David has a chair seat you can work on.
Learn how to strip, pad, and cover.
Learn how to use upholstery tools and materials.
If you have a chair that does not have a slip seat e.g. a chair with a non-removable seat that has webbing and is upholstered to the frame of the chair then please book the Full Day Chair Restoration class.
What do we need to bring?
* You should bring a chair or just the slip seat
* Fabric - half a square metre for a standard size dining chair
* Foam 450 x 450 in size, either 25mm or 50mm thick depending on your choice
* Calico, Dacron, Cotton Wadding or polyester lining to cover the foam
* New webbing (if the slip is webbed and needs to be replaced)
We stock the above items (apart from the fabric which will be your choice) and they can be purchased on the day if you don't have your own.
(Please bring cash as we do not take cards but a bank transfer is OK)
Full-day class
Learn to strip, pad, and cover a dining chair and make minor repairs. Work on your own chair with David’s guidance while he demonstrates techniques.
During this class, David will show restoration and upholstery techniques and you work on your own chair under supervision and guidance.

What to bring
  • A chair (full and half day) or just the slip seat (half day only).
  • At least 0.5sqm of fabric. Please bring your own choice of fabric with you.
  • Foam, calico or Dacron, new webbing if this needs to be replaced (all available to purchase on the day if you do not have your own).
  • Suitable clothes for dusty work and sensible shoes.
  • Packed lunch (or there is a local shop nearby).
  • Your own tools if you would like to learn how to use them.
