What you'll do
If you've always wanted to learn how to spray paint and produce special finishes, then this hands-on class from The Great British Woodshop could be just for you.
Whether you want to renovate your kitchen and respray your cupboard doors with an antique effect or you want to learn to paint a brick wall in a quarter of the time, this workshop will teach you the painting techniques you need to do it all.
Connect with expert craftsman David, who will cover everything from the basics of spray painting guns and proper technique to how to clean your equipment when you're done. You'll get hands-on as you learn how to prepare, mix and spray your paint onto example pieces, developing skills that are sure to help in your future DIY projects!
In this class, you'll cover:
Gun and compressor, choice gun types (gravity, suction, pot, airbrush and touch-up) HVHP (conventional) vs. HVLP nozzel choice, setting up the gun, pressures and fan patterns, materials you can spray and how to thin them, mixing ratios, water-, oil- and spirit-based dyes and stains, sealing the wood and treatments pre-sealing, Pre - Cat (pre catalyst lacquer), tints and ageing, colour shading, clear and coloured lacquers, spraying techniques with both conventional and HVLP, health and safety, ventilation tips and ideas for making your own spray booth at home.

Your teacher
At the Great British Woodshop, students of all abilities are given a warm welcome at our large and fully tooled workshop in West Byfleet, Surrey.
Courses are run by woodworking craftsman and television presenter David Free. DRB certified, David has been practising woodwork for 40 years and has been teaching all ages for 20 of those. David is passionate about sharing his woodwork and DIY knowledge with others.
