What you'll do

You'll learn from expert teacher David, who will dispense plenty of handy hints and tips as you cover basic home repair techniques, watch demonstrations of the equipment on offer, get to grips with power tools and much more.
With small class sizes and one-to-one guidance available throughout, this workshop is perfect for beginners looking to build on their DIY skills as part of a team building activity, unique date night or day out in West Byfleet!
During this one day course, you will learn:
- How to drill into plasterboard, wood, concrete, glass and brick.
- Replacing a door (hanging the door, replacing hinges, installing door hardware-handle and lock).
- Repairing plasterboard (cracks, small and large holes).
- Blocking up a doorway or opening up a wall.
- Fixing pictures and TV’s to walls using different fixings for different walls.
- Electrical basics (wiring a plug, making an extension lead, repairing lamps and installing light fixtures, how to use a multi-meter for checking voltage and current, changing a wall socket and light switch, how to install downlights (LED and colour changing) and diming options for mains and low voltage.
- How to feed cables into difficult places and final testing.
- Removal and application of silicone sealants, different sealants and their uses.
- Caulking.
- How to deal with wet and dry rot, special undercoats and paints.
- Repairing overflowing toilets, leaking tap washers and plastic pipe connectors.
- Changing a tap.
- Tile application and grouting basics.

At the Great British Woodshop, students of all abilities are given a warm welcome at our large and fully tooled workshop in West Byfleet, Surrey.
Courses are run by woodworking craftsman and television presenter David Free. DRB certified, David has been practising woodwork for 40 years and has been teaching all ages for 20 of those. David is passionate about sharing his woodwork and DIY knowledge with others.
