What you'll do
If your home could use a bit of a spruce up, come along to this hands-on DIY class, where you'll learn how to safely and efficiently fit wall fixings.Under the guidance of a friendly expert, you'll learn how to insert different fixings into plasterboard, timber stud, and brick and install a shelf bracket in a plasterboard wall. Learning the skills to do this in your home can save you money and help you build confidence to tackle other DIY tasks.The Great British Woodshop practical series classes are a good follow-on from their Skills Classes where you can take the knowledge you have learned and put it to practical use in a more targeted or focused way.During the class, you'll learn how to:
- Use the drill to install different types of hollow wall fixings into a plasterboard wall
- Use the drill to install plugs into brick
- Dealing with shelves and uneven walls
- Fit wall brackets into the stud work and the hollow wall anchors
- Use a level to make sure your brackets are both plumb and level
- Install your shelf and secure it
What you'll get

What to bring
- If you have some of your own tools and would like to learn how to use them properly, then you are welcome to bring them and use them on the course. We have a fully equipped workshop so there is no need to bring anything, but some students like to bring their own.
- Please wear clothes suitable for dusty work, sensible shoes, and your own lunch. There is a local shop nearby if you wish to buy lunch or you can bring a packed lunch with you. Tea and coffee are provided throughout the day.

Your teacher
At the Great British Woodshop, students of all abilities are given a warm welcome at our large and fully tooled workshop in West Byfleet, Surrey. Courses are run by woodworking craftsman and television presenter David Free. DRB certified, David has been practising woodwork for 40 years and has been teaching all ages for 20 of those. David is passionate about sharing his woodwork and DIY knowledge with others.
