3 hours Class size 1 to 8 (public classes), 5 to 12 label £70

Join The Fermentarium for an extensive deep dive into the art of kombucha fermentation. In this Kombucha making class, you'll learn the main foundations of fermentation, and the difference between kombucha vs. other styles of fermenting. We’ll also go over the cultural background of kombucha and its health benefits alongside practical maintenance of the SCOBY.

Your local, experienced teacher will inspire you with a variety of flavour combinations you can experiment with, and give you a breakdown of the role that different ingredients have when they are used in kombucha.

In the class, you’ll make the first ferment (which includes a SCOBY) to take home as well as a secondary ferment, getting a chance to flavour a pre-made first ferment with ingredients of your choice. You’ll sample a selection of different kombuchas such as jun and coffee kombucha to kick-start your kombucha ideas.

Included in the class is a starter pack with a jar, a starter and a SCOBY as well as a tasting session of various kombucha flavours.

The Fermentarium is an independent organisation dedicated to promoting the small-scale production of “real” fermented food and drink. The adventure began in 2014, beginning with sourdough bread and pizza making.

Owners, Simon and David, wanted to share their knowledge and experience with others and started running lactic fermentation classes. Eventually, they were joined by Anna in 2016 and added further classes to their repertoire including kombucha, soft fermented drinks, cultured condiments and dairy ferments.

They run interactive and exciting classes that share the love for fermented foods with others. Whether you're a newbie or well experienced, anyone can join. Corporate events and private courses can also be catered for.
