Ceramics Class: Taster

Try your hand sculpting a pot + throwing a dish on the potter's wheel

2 hours Class size 1 to 12 (public classes), 7 to 20 label £45

Want to have a go on the potter's wheel and also hand-build a beautiful pot?
We welcome you to have a taste of both at The Ceramicists Studio!

Our studio is very spacious, warm, cosy and full of clay-spiration.
We are passionate ceramicists and will make sure you make the most of it.

A demo of hand building with coils will kick off the workshop and after that, you can get your hands messy with pre-made coils by us (so the boring prep part is out of the way!).

Once you’ve nailed the coiling technique, we can simultaneously start throwing on the potter’s wheel - you will get two goes on the wheel - one with our guidance and another where you can freestyle!

By the end of the taster workshop you will have 2 bespoke ceramic pieces AT NO EXTRA COST (one hand-built and another thrown on the wheel) that we will fire and glaze (transparent glaze), which takes 3-4 weeks.
After this, they will be ready to collect from our studio or we can deliver them (UK only) to you at an added cost.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure you get to see the coiling demo at the start of the workshop, otherwise you interrupt and shorten the class for everyone. We have a strict policy on late arrivals. We will do our best to go over the demo for you again, however we must end the workshop at the intended time - we cannot extend your workshop time.

We look forward to seeing you and hearing about your lovely clay ideas and enthusiasm.

P.S Things you can coil build: Toothbrush cup, no.1 dad mug, paint brush pot holder, small vase, trinket dish, incense holder, spoon rest, a salt pig - the list is endless!

Really fun intro into pottery. Awesome that you get 2 attempts at wheel throwing, and that you get to keep one of them along with your hand coiled piece. A really peaceful setting and everything was properly explained. My only feedback was I wish the class was just ever so slightly longer as decorating/painting at the end felt very rushed. Thank you

Really fun! The teachers were very helpful, attentive and helpful. Would recommend this to any beginner!

Aisha Saeed May 2022

Amazing class! I booked this for my sister's hen do and it was such great activity. Our teacher Lenny was fantastic, super patient with us and very flexible. We were all amazed that we managed to come away with a couple of really cool pieces that we had made. Everyone had their own wheel and we learnt really cool techniques, how to coil and throw. I would highly recommend and also want to thank Stephanie and Lenny for being so accommodating and giving us a great experience.

I enjoyed my first pottery class in my life. Teacher was kind and very engaging. Also a teacher assistant was helpful.
The teacher I had was different from the picture on the website. I definitely want to recommend and go back for other lessons. Time was a bit tight so it would be good to think about what you want to make beforehand.

This was a Christmas gift from my partner and only now have we had the time to do the class.

It’s been something I wanted to do for a while, so it was super fun to get our hands dirty for the day. We got to make 2 pieces within 2hrs. We got to learn coiling and throwing techniques.

There were two teachers on the day and both were helpful talking through the steps, and they would go around helping each person.

I thought throwing was quite exciting to learn - we get two goes, the one you like the most gets fired up.

Two hours wasn’t enough, I think an extra 30mins would be nice but I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

If they had a intermediate class available, I would consider joining again.

Cecilia Pares Apr 2022

I had a very nice time! Was able to create two pieces and meet nice people. I would definitely recommend it

I really enjoyed the class! We received a quick intro on the coiling technique for our first project, then got to work. Shortly after we received a demo on the wheel, and proceeded to work on that piece as well. The time flew by and we were able to walk away with two pieces that are being sent to us.

Overall the class size was good, the teaching was awesome, and the playlist in the studio was also fantastic :)

Steph and her team were outstanding, I surprised my cousin with a class for her birthday, the venue had everything we needed, the staff were all so friendly. We did a mix of hand building and wheel throwing miniature pots for practice, Steph was so patient with us and let us take the time on our pieces. Overall the class was a lot of fun and very informative. Can't wait to go back!

Roz Kingham Nov 2021

Theresa Pascual Nov 2021

The taster class is so perfect for beginners like me! Me and the boyfriend enjoyed it so much!
Their demonstrations were clear and easy to follow. They guide you throughout the class and will be there when you need help or when you fail miserably on the potter’s wheel
It’s definitely worth the money as you will be able to try out two different methods and you even get to take two of your creations home after a few weeks (they need to bake and glaze them)!
I can’t wait to go back again and maybe try out a full potter’s wheel session.

While I enjoyed the lovely atmosphere in the sudio, the session was informational and hands on at the same time. Stéphanie and her assistant Lenny gave very good instructions to succeed and have nice results to take home. It is a wonderful and joyful experience to work with your hands, so very much recommended!
