Come and learn to cook a Balti feast, the dishes I taught for BBC MasterChef 2023!
Balti curries were invented in the mid-1970s right here in Birmingham and have since gained recognition throughout the world for a good reason. What could be better than a Balti Cooking Class here in Birmingham (well, just outside by 200 meters, actually, in 'Halesowen!') given by a true Balti fan who also recently had the pleasure of teaching a celebrity the exact same meal for them to go onto to Celebrity MasterChef 2023 and go through to the next round by bowling over the judges!
The class doesn’t just cover Balti curries but also includes all the dishes to teach you the cooking skills to whip up a complete and authentic Balti curry with all the trimmings. Balti curries are unique and must have a specific set of ingredients for them to be a true, authentic Balti. In this class, we will uncover all the tips and history to create a delicious Anglo-Pakistani meal with Balti at its centre.
The class can be based on any dietary requirements, so please let me know in advance, I am happy to accommodate any requests, including allergies, and the need for Halal products, and also tailor the class for vegetarians or vegans or full-blooded carnivores without problem.
In this Indian cooking class, you will learn to make:
- A Balti of your choice (Chicken, Lamb, Paneer, Veg, Prawn/Seafood, Chana, etc., or a mix of ingredients at your request – I recommend cooking the Balti you would order at a restaurant!)
- Tarka Dhal Side Dish.
- Tandoor Roti - The perfect bread for dipping into a Balti (it is rarely ever eaten with rice.)
- Poppadoms, Mint Raita and Onion Salad.
- Mango Lassi – The perfect drink to have alongside a Balti meal.

- Tupperware to take the food away with you to enjoy at home after the class.
- Pen and paper to take any notes on the cooking tips etc.

Cooking and my interest in food are literally my life! I've been cooking for 25 years professionally. I cook at Harborne Food School. I'm also the proprietor of my own food business and former Tour Chef to Wiz Khalifa, ASAP Rocky, Chevvy Woods, Rozi Plain, Bloc Party and Paramore.
As well as cooking for music tours, I have won plenty of culinary awards, including silver medalist at the World Culinary Olympics 2017 representing England in the Indian category and also achieved 3rd place in the prestigious UK Curry Championships 2023. As a Foodie, I've travelled to over 60 countries and lived in Malaysia, China and Spain and have gathered a wide repertoire of dishes that I would love to share with you.
Apart from a few accolades already mentioned, I feel a great passion for food history, origins of ingredients, and regional staples not only across Asia, but the world over. I love to cook and share my knowledge, and often learn a lot from my students too.
