Want to update your recipe list and learn some new kitchen skills? Master Asian cuisine like a pro with this Indonesian cooking class in Birmingham. Hosted by Tina, an experienced kitchen whiz and native of Indonesia, you'll learn to prepare and cook each dish from scratch at your own individual work station in a modern kitchen environment.
Take a tour of the Indonesian Islands through the unique flavours of Bali, Java and Sumatra. Learn more about the culture behind the dishes and become familiar with the spices you'll be using during the class.
Under Tina's expert tutelage, you'll enjoy step-by-step instructions as you cook your way through a delicious Indonesian menu:
- Javanese chicken satay and peanut sauce - although found across SE Asia, this famous street food dish originates from the island of Java. You'll also learn an incredible family recipe for satay sauce handed down by Tina's mum.
- Sumatran chicken curry with steamed rice - a rich and fragrant banana leaf curry slowly simmered in coconut milk with galangal, lemon grass and kaffir lime leaf and served with steamed rice.
- Nasi Goreng, meaning "fried rice" in Indonesian, is a beloved Southeast Asian dish that combines fragrant rice with a medley of spices, vegetables, and protein. This flavourful and versatile dish is a staple of Indonesian cuisine, offering a harmonious blend of textures and tastes that will transport your taste buds to the vibrant streets of Southeast Asia.
The class is designed for all skill levels, and you'll be learning and cooking along at your own pace, with Tina on hand to make sure you're on the right lines.
At the end of the class, you'll enjoy your own cooked three-course meal together with the other students, or alternatively, take your meal home with you to share with family and friends. Whichever you choose, you'll leave inspired by the wonderful flavours and useful skills you've learned about.
During the class, you'll learn:
- Understanding Asian spices and how to combine to make spice pastes.
- Making satay sauce.
- How to balance flavours.
- Knife skills.
- Increased cultural understanding of Indonesia and some basic greetings.
Please note: this class is not suitable for vegans, vegetarians or people with nut and crustacean allergies.
