What you'll do

If you've ever wanted to make your own candles, this workshop will give you the basic skills to create three scented candles in different styled containers.

Held in the lovely market town of Thornbury, just 12 miles north of Bristol, during this two and a half-hour candle making class you will make a unique candle made from 100 percent natural soy wax. Be as creative as you like! Your teacher will show you step by step the process of making a container candle using a microwave.

All equipment and materials will be provided, as well as complimentary refreshments like tea, coffee and biscuits. You will also have access to a fragrance library, giving you a wide selection of fragrance oils to choose your own favourite scent from.

You will learn:

An overview of the different types of wax in candle making
About the different fragrance options (essential oils v fragrance oils)
How to assemble and hand pour your own container candle
About wick types and how to burn a candle correctly
How to measure the correct amount of wax, fragrance and dye to use in candles
The equipment needed for candle making

You will leave the workshop with an array of personalised handcrafted candles to proudly display in your home or give away as unique gifts! Not only this but you'll gain the confidence and skills to create many more homemade candle masterpieces for your home.

Hello my name is Lindsey Benson founder of Mount Cottage Crafts, I organise and run craft workshops in the lovely market town of Thornbury, South Gloucestershire near Bristol.

The workshops are held in 'The Chantry', in the centre of Thornbury, a great practical setting to discover and develop your crafting skills.

Launched in 2018 we plan to offer a wide range of affordable craft workshops.

We booked this candle making workshop with Lindsay for my sisters hen party and we couldn’t have been happier.

Lindsay herself is friendly and was very patient with a room of amateurs , explaining all steps clearly and teaching us a lot about the considerations when making and purchasing candles generally.
The workshop itself was super fun and we were all delighted with the 3, yes 3, candles we made and took away
Lindsay provided tea, coffee and a yummy selection of chocolate/ biscuits.

Finally, the venue itself was spacious and had good facilities including parking and baby changing facilities.

Overall, we would highly recommend this workshop.

Loved the workshop, it was a lovely fun weekend activity and interesting - the teacher was informative about the products we were using, and it was all really clear and well taught! Great value for money too and we made some lovely products with a good range of personalisation, I didn’t realise we’d be decorating a candle and there were some lovely materials provided. Loved the recycled containers too!

We learned how to make candles using soy and fragrance oils. The instructions were clear and suited to someone who had never done candlemaking. Lindsey was very well suited to teaching the subject. All the materials were available and everything was well presented. At the end of the course we could take the candles home and encouraged to have a try at pursuing this as a hobby.

As it’s the first one i had been on, I’ve nothing to compare it with, but class was a nice size and Lindsey was very knowledgeable and a nice person. Has loads of stuff to choose from to make your own candies to take away. Yes, good value for money and an enjoyable afternoon doing something completely different to the day job
