What you'll do
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your sketching skills with guidance from one of our expert Hobbycraft Artisans. You can choose to follow along with your own materials or book any of the three classes available with a craft kit included.
Top Tip: You only need to purchase the craft kit once as the materials included will cover all three of the designs available.
The classes will take an online webinar format, you the opportunity to watch a live demonstration of the project while also being able to ask any questions. The skills you’ll learn are perfect for portrait work, but they can also be transferred to other scenes and subjects. You’ll be shown all the steps required, but you can finish working on your own sketch at any pace you choose.
Top Tip: We would recommend starting with the top of the portrait first – eye, nose, lips.
Three Designs Available:
Eyes
Using a range of pencils, you’ll be shown how to create the soft outline of an eye, mapping out highlights before learning how to create shadow in the eye socket. You’ll use a blending stump to soften and blend, before adding detail using darker lines. In addition, you can discover the highlight effects of using a putty rubber for a truly professional finish.
Nose
You’ll be shown how to map out the basic shape of the nose, learning the importance of symmetry, before creating a tonal base for your drawing. To achieve a three-dimensional finish, you’ll use the blending stump to soften the shade of your piece, while the putty rubber is used to add highlights for a professional effect.
Lips
You’ll be shown how to map out the basic shape of the lips, learning how to draw an accurate cupid’s bow. To achieve a three-dimensional finish, you’ll use different pencils to lay down a midtone across the lips, create the look of texture, and give the effect of light and shade.
