Looking to grow your drawing confidence? This introduction to top pen and ink techniques breaks down the essentials into a few simple steps that you can then put into practice!

During the workshop, you’ll be shown a range of drawing techniques to help add depth and detail to your work. With the guidance of an expert Hobbycraft Artisan, you’ll discover what can be achieved with the different pens included in your craft kit. The workshop will cover seven different drawing techniques: pressure lines, clustered circles, fill sections, broken lines, light and heavy circular patterns, stippling, and hatching and cross hatching.

Once you’ve learned each of these techniques, you’ll draw a basic design and then utilise each of the techniques as you fill your design with pattern and detail. This is a great opportunity to see your new skills taking effect as you complete your beautiful piece.

Using the techniques learned during the session, you can continue to work on your piece even after the workshop is over. You’ll also have opportunities to ask the Hobbycraft Artisan host any questions throughout.

This workshop was really good. Rugilee was an excellent teacher. She covered so many techniques right at the beginning in a very visual way which she suggested we note down. This was great for reference though she demonstrated each stage as we participated. I thought the timing and pace was perfect. I am going to love working in pen and ink.

Really enjoyed this class - nice relaxed pace and friendly knowledgeable tutor. Also did macrame class, beginners watercolour wildlife, beginners guide to floral sketching, workshop of visible mending and beginners class in brush lettering. I was very impressed with all of them and thought they were all good value for money, very interesting and informative. I didn't feel rushed at any stage, and felt I gained a lot of information, tips and ideas that I could use after the class to continue with all of them. Would recommend to anyone.

Really enjoyed this workshop as I learnt a lot. I think that you need to be aware that you won't have a completed design by the end of the session as it takes a lot of time so just focus on learning rather than trying to get it all done. This was an interesting class and I enjoyed learning the techniques to create depth and texture using the ink pens. The hexagonal design looks effective and allows creativity to link all of the pieces together. The class was well paced and didn’t feel rushed. The Hobbycraft information always asks participants to log in ten minutes before the start time. Why this is required and what purpose it serves still isn’t clear or known. The session starts at the set time with no interaction prior to that start time . The session seemed to be at a fairly rapid pace but with the option of doing whatever you wanted from the demonstration information. I had to do the best I could because it wasn’t going to be physically possible to do things at the same pace as the demonstration or the second part where the drawing was being done properly. I had unfortunately to leave a little early too but received an email from Emma with some links which will be useful. A lot of materials to use and some time ahead to consider what to do and how best to continue practicing and developing these ideas in the future. Thanks .

A very pleasant and relaxing hour spent learning about Pen & Ink drawing. The tutor Rachel was extremely knowledgeable and there were many techniques and tips she passed on to help me continue to practice for myself. Having all the required items sent beforehand is such a great idea, no need for additional shopping at this stage. The only thing I would wish for is a little bit more time rather than it being a rush at the end but the tutor is available afterwards to email with those questions you always forget to ask at the time. I really enjoyed the session. Rachel explained and demonstrated the different techniques really clearly and encouraged us to be creative. I will definitely be exploring this medium further since attending the class.
My only criticism is that the session was quite fast paced and would have been better if an extra half hour could be added to allow for more time to complete the design.

Was a very good class and the time just flew past. It was a first for me drawing with pen and ink and it was made easy to follow and I was reasonably pleased with the end result when I finished it off today. I think I will now restart the process to address the lessons learned the first time around.

I can see further uses as well in other activities. I do a lot of copying of images using a lightpad and the pen and ink will add interest to the water colouring.

As with the three other courses I've done although asked to join 10 mins before it was after the start time when the tutor appeared. She spoke very, very quickly and rattled through things without giving people the opportunity ask questions or get clarification. I finished after time but still didn't cover all the techniques on the template (i.e. I think the Posca pen was used in one part of the design.
If the tutor had been available prior to the stated start time of 6.30pm rapport could have been stablished. As it was she had to go faster than the. speed of sound to catch up with what she wanted to teach/demonstrate.

The subject was very engaging and the time went quickly. I would recommend this to beginners who are worried about starting drawing, as a doodle, it teaches basics really well.
