What you'll do
Who is this Zoom basic cooking course aimed at?
- Families, children aged 11+ to adults.
- Teenagers participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (Bronze, Silver, or Gold).
- Young adults leaving home.
- Younger children can join in with help from an adult.
Hob, oven, and knife work will be undertaken, so a grown-up in the room is always required for safety and safeguarding.
Course objectives
It aims to provide fun, practical cooking skills, enabling participants to create a wide range of easy-to-prepare dishes for themselves, friends, and family.
This course is 12 weeks long – around an hour between 5-6pm on Tuesdays live on Zoom.
How does this work?
The Zoom link and full recipes will be sent out beforehand so you can gather your ingredients for each class.
Weighing and chopping will be done during the class, as this is part of the learning. (You may chop and weigh ingredients beforehand if you prefer to watch more and take notes).
Cameras can be switched on or off, so interaction is entirely up to the individual.
Cameras switched on are preferable to encourage attendees to ask questions, communicate with others, and enjoy the cook-along! It also helps Anne Marie stop and wait for people before taking the next step.

- How to prepare and cook staple ingredients.
- Easy ways to repurpose ingredients and leftovers to create new dishes.
- How to reduce food waste through correct storage of ingredients.
- Knife skills, baking techniques, measuring, use of hob and oven.
- Understand flavours and the use of herbs and spices.
- Have fun cooking and meeting new people.
Zoom Course Outcomes
- Cook meals independently for up to four people.
- Ultimately instils a love of cooking.
- Create confidence in the kitchen so simple dishes can be recreated easily.
- Enable experimentation with flavours and ingredients to create dishes without referring to recipes.
- Learn how to make the most of leftovers safely.
- Eat well on a budget.
Basic cooking course dates starting September 2024 Tuesdays 5-6pm (Maximum 15 households).

Cooking Courses are provided each school term and contain different recipes so, suitable for those doing Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards and children who wish to learn more dishes.
- 3/9 Potato and courgette soup and bread dumplings
- 10/9 Traffic light vegetable rice
- 17/9 Macaroni cheese and garlic bread (how to make homemade oat milk)
- 24/9 Apple/Plum crumble (blackberries too, if you can find some in the hedgerows!)
- 1/10 Chicken/fish/vegetable nuggets, wedges and salad
- 8/10 Hummus and crackers
- 15/10 Vegetable or Chicken Katsu curry
- 29/10 Jam roly-poly and custard
- 5/11 Vegetable or Chicken korma and naans from scratch
- 12/11 Sausage/Chicken casserole and dumplings
- 19/11 Spatchcock chicken, Hasselback potatoes and roasted vegetables with gravy.
- 26/11 Ginger biscuits (plus a template for making a house)

Hi I’m Anne Marie and I love to cook and can't wait to share my knowledge with you. I have been teaching all ages since 2009 and very experienced in what I do and won several awards in recognition of this.
I am very patient and used to working with people who are beginners or not very confident in the kitchen.
I provide cooking programmes in the community alongside corporate health and well being workshops to encourage and enable people to cook from scratch.
I love to bake and teach traditional foods as well popular food from around the world. I especially enjoy dishes that enable me to use my seasonal fruit and vegetables from my allotment.
I also provide a variety of accessible cooking lessons to inspire you to cook no matter what your dietary requirements.
All my cooking experiences have an emphasis on fun, health, sustainability and affordability. They are also simple enough for beginners but interesting enough for those looking for some inspiration in the kitchen.
They are available for individuals of all ages in your own home live via Zoom. I also provide bespoke private lessons and small group workshops from my home in Warwick, UK.
I like to show people that cooking does not have to be complicated to taste good, it’s all about confidence about knowing what tastes good together and mastering some basic cooking skills.
My aim is to be creative with basic ingredients already in your cupboard, which will inspire you to recreate them again and again. No need for fancy ingredient kits! Also better for the environment too.
I believe that anyone can cook with a little help and my aim is to make cooking a pleasure and not a chore. I am a great believer in sustainable cooking and finding imaginative ways to use your leftovers.
