Leeds Cookery School donates 100% of its profit to Zest, a local Leeds charity supporting people living in disadvantaged areas of the city. Zest carry out a large number of projects including running social clubs, helping families to access food in the school holidays, developing cooking skills and lots more in between!

Across our range of classes, courses and events at Leeds Cookery School our teachers promote and talk about seasonal ingredients, local sourcing and the importance of eating ethically and sustainably. Our ingredients are sourced from Yorkshire and are sustainable wherever possible and we always use free-range eggs. We order small quantities to minimise wastage and always consider the food miles travelled by our ingredients.

As well as donating profits to Zest, Leeds Cookery School has committed to running affordable cooking activities throughout the year, in partnership with Jamie’s Ministry of Food Leeds and Zest’s Community Development Team. These sessions enable low-income families and vulnerable people to access basic cookery skills and cookery clubs that address social isolation.

It was my son and his girlfriend who went and they absolutely loved it, learnt new skills and said they would definitely recommend it.
Came back with lots of delicious food - only wish I didn’t live 350 miles away so I could have sampled some!

This was a great class that I attended with my mum as a Mother’s Day gift. It was perfect for us as beginners and also really accessible for a wheelchair user. The atmosphere created was relaxed but informative. Best of all the end product tasted delicious!

I got to go with my friend to this course as a birthday present from January so I was really excited and counting down to the day! It was just as amazing as I was expecting and as a baker anyway, I was keen to expand my skills. The teacher (Scott) was very knowledgeable and also good at making sure everybody was able to participate fully. My thanks to the team, such a great present.

I used a voucher I received for my birthday towards this class Flavours from the Sea, which took place at Leeds Cookery school. This was a really great venue with plenty of space. All ingredients provided were of high quality and I thought the course represented good value for money. The teacher Dan was really excellent - good fun, knowledgeable and helpful. I felt I learned new things. Dan and his assistant Ann made it a very welcoming and enjoyable experience. The food we made provided us with a delicious lunch and dinner for two. I would definitely book with Leeds Cookery School again.

Attended the Plant Based Knife Skills course yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed! Scott (the teacher) was very knowledgeable, approachable and down to earth. Had an amazing time at the couples tapas cooking class with Daniel and team. The venue was intimate and the experience fun and enjoyable. Once we had cooked four different dishes, we were able to enjoy them with the other attendees over a glass of well deserved wine! Thank you.

Scot and Julie were fantastic and made us feel at home while learning new tricks to practice in the kitchen.
The menu was very interesting and all the activities were very well timed so we had plenty of time for questions and to practice our newly learned skills.
We used some of the food we cooked for lunch which was pleasantly served and we also enjoyed a glass of wine with it.
We were provided suitable containers (I am afraid the once I brought would not have been good enough) to take our food home and useful tips on how to reheat and serve it at home. My family loved it!
The venue is great, with convenient parking, clean, bright and very welcoming. It was a suppose for us that all the profits from the classes go to charity to help with vital projects in Leeds.
As a bonus, we received good tips on restaurants to visit in Leeds and York.
All in all it was a great day and I would strongly recommend the class.

The teacher was really passionate about cooking and that really helps when you're learning something! He really made everyone feel included and got us all stuck in. The venue was perfect for our group size and had great equipment for everything in the class. Good quality ingredients as well and obviously tasted great at the end of it!

It was nice to be able to eat at the end of the class and have a chat. Learn how to make tempura batter and how to make a Japanese curry sauce from scratch (I'm used to using just the blocks you can buy from an Asian supermarket and stir into some water).

Our teacher Daniel and Anne in support were wonderful, friendly, relaxed and very informative. The venue is superb and ideally located. We learned a lot and had a lovely time. I totally recommend this class and it's in support of Zest, which is a wonderful charity.

The teacher Scott and staff were exceptional! Very professional but friendly and encouraging.
Venue very accessible for all.
Ingredients were all provided and Scott taught us to make Japanese Gyozas, katsu curry with breaded pork, sticky rice and tempura veg! Amazing Food tasted superb and we all sat to eat together with a beer or lemonade.
We will return and recommend it highly!

Norman was fantastic, and gave some great cultural context around the dishes we were making. The class was mostly very well organised and ran very smoothly. The Char Kuay Teow recipe was simple and very effective, delicious, quite faithful to the original and was easy to replicate at home. The curries were a great introduction to two different styles of Malaysian curry, the Kapitan curry in particular was delicious. Some of the tips and tricks (e.g. making kerisik from creamed coconut) will be invaluable for me in future when making other dishes like Rendang. An excellent basis was given for how to prepare the rotis, but I would have appreciate more practice and coaching on these skills on the day. If Norman were to offer a course like this again with some different dishes, I would be excited to join it. Thanks Norman!
