What you'll do
Quickly to get to grips with your new sewing machine! The workshop will have you making beautiful sewing projects in no time, with the opportunity to see how simple the machine is to set up and learn basic techniques and skills. This is a great way to build your confidence and knowledge.
This demonstration is perfect if you’re new to machine sewing and looking to get the most out of your new sewing machine. The hour session is designed for complete beginners, with lots of opportunity to ask questions.
The expert Hobbycraft Artisan will show you how to thread your machine and load a bobbin, give you a tour of all the features and accessories, and demonstrate sewing a few starter stitches.
Though there may be differences between the machine used for the demonstration and your own machine, the process will always be very similar. You may wish to refer to your manual or ask your Hobbycraft Artisan for advice.
By the end of the demonstration, you’ll walk away with a great knowledge of your machine and plenty of ideas on how to start using it!

Really good class! Got a sewing machine as a present a year ago, tried to teach myself and got no where - very difficult to teach yourself when you don't know basic bobbin loading/troubleshooting. This class will get you completely confident with setting up your machine and how it works. The Sewing Machine Test Drive templates they email are really helpful for practice too. I was only able to print them on paper before the class, but they are available printed on fabric from in store and apparently will be posted in later classes, but the class was too new for my session for this to be sent out. My instructor Steph was also really helpful and friendly! Made everything really clear, and was able to help troubleshoot and answer specific questions of students during class. Clearly very knowledgeable and happy to teach! I'd previous tried to attend an in store class, but with my work schedule could never find a time that worked so having an online evening class was great! Thank you very much Hobbycraft!

But he went through the various equipment available in the shop for about 15 minutes - he could have just given us a list, as we're not going to need a lot of that yet as beginners. It would have been more helpful if he had taught us for the whole hour.

Second time I did this class. The first time was a bit of a non starter but Hobbycraft allowed me to repeat this class. A much better experinece which I was able to enjoy & sew along. I even managed to find stuff on my sewing machine which I didn't during the class. I also repaired something after the class on my sewing machine & I am a beginner. I just need to work out how to replace my needle now as it broke during my repair LOL. The life of a sewing novice.

I have had a few lessons has a beginner.
I had not had any more lessons since the start of the year and took this was a refresher. I also did learn a more things about my machine.
The teacher was quite informative and explained things as clearly as she could and had two different models of sewing machines to show people with
. The class was rather large, so there were a few people who were complete novices slightly struggled, to begin with.
However the teacher offered to check information with them and go through things. She answered questions and demonstrated on the camera. The camera itself was a little out of focus on occasions.
This was a technical cliche.
I would recommend these classes, to other people. They are a good place to springboard off to do other classes.
The price is very reasonable and good for those who are on a tight budget.
I will be doing other classes with Hobby Craft, in the very near future

This workshop has given me the confidence to really get started with my new sewing machine. I have realised that the machine is actually easier to use than my 40 my year old one, although it looks more complicated. The Hobbycraft Artisan was knowledgeable, but went at a nice steady pace, so it was very easy to understand. It has inspired me to try the exercises on the practice templates and I am looking forward to joining more workshops when they are available.

The host was very good, but the video recording was out of focus when doing close-ups. During the demo, every time someone made a noise as they kept the mic on, their window shows instead of the host. And I couldn't see what the host was showing.
