Q: What is wood block printing?
Wood block printing is a textile technique which is a heritage craft from India. The blocks are made from a very dense Indian wood called Sheesham wood. It is only possible to export it with a government license so that the forests are protected. The carving process starts with a paper design placed over the wood block which is then ‘punched’ through with metal chisels.
Q: Is the fabric paint permanent?
The paint is made permanent by heat, so items need to be ironed after you're finished. They can then be washed at 40 degrees in a washing machine.
Q: Can the wood blocks be used again?
Yes, they are very robust and can be used hundreds of times. They are cleaned with water and a stiff bristle brush.
Q: What ages is this kit suitable for?
A: Adults & 8+ years. An adult must be present whilst kid(s) engage with the box.
