What you'll do
On the lookout for remote team-building activities your colleagues will actually enjoy? Join Emma from Socko as she shows you the lost art of darning. Darning is a simple yet important sewing technique that allows you to mend holes in precious items of clothing, bags or other textiles — ideal for the eco-conscious crafters out there.
Each team member will receive a craft kit with everything they'll need to follow along with the online class. Beginning with a short screen-shared presentation, you'll enjoy an overhead close-up of Emma’s hands as she guides the group through the process step by step, ensuring you have the best possible view of the action.
Whether you're an avid crafter or you've never threaded a needle before, you'll love learning this useful craft that'll stand you in good stead for years of mending fun.
Please note: Kits will be sent to the company address, for you to organise distribution to each individual team member.
Knowledge required
All levels of sewing know-how are welcome. From those who have never threaded a needle through to proficient knitters and tailors.
What you'll get in your craft kit
- 1 x swatch of 100% reclaimed cotton with a hole in it.
- 2 x 100% reclaimed cotton yarn wraps in orange and blue.
- 1 x darning needle.
- 1 x needle threader.
What you'll need
- Scissors.
- Participants are encouraged to bring or share their own damaged items for advice and to work on once their sampler is complete.

Emma is the founder of sustainable British sock brand Socko. Socko’s mission is to extend the active life of clothing by re-teaching the lost art of darning. Emma’s dream of Socko began when searching for meaning in her work. She saw that her job satisfaction came when she was able to connect what she’d done with her working day with its positive impact upon others. Through combining her talent for craft with her love of people and planet, she identified her business idea. Socko launched its very first pair of sustainable socks at the end of 2018. Emma lives in north-east London with her partner and their sausage dog Alan.
