If you're keen on finding unique team-building activities in London this Christmas or you want to gather your friends and family for some creative fun, bring the whole gang to one of these London baking classes and learn to make some handmade sweet treats to ring in the festive season.

Hosted at one of Bread Ahead's artisan bakeries in the heart of London, you can choose between a delectable selection of different Christmas bakes from across the globe. Led by a passionate baker, you and your group will enjoy expert tuition as you knead, roll, shape and bake your way to some impressive new kitchen skills.

Your class can be held in one of three bakery schools: Borough Market, Wembley or Chelsea.

You can choose from one of the following six workshop options:

Scandinavian Christmas
You’ll make the well known Norwegian bread enjoyed at Christmas time, Julekake: rich like a brioche and sweet and citrusy like a panettone. The crowning glory of Swedish Christmas bakes, the Kanellangd, pronounced ‘kin-a-link’ is both decorative and an absolute joy to eat. Much like the classic Swedish cinnamon buns, the dough is enriched and then filled with a spicy cinnamon butter, our expert bakers will show you how to transform this into the signature tear and share style loaf. As it’s Christmas, you’ll make some crisp pebernoder biscuits for good measure — traditional Swedish biscuits infused with multiple spices ideal for gifting.

Mince Pies
When it comes to festive baking, it doesn’t get much more Christmassy than mince pies. In this half day workshop you’ll use our very own traditional mincemeat recipe to create some of the most more-ish mince pies you’ve ever tasted. You’ll also create a frangipane variation of the classic – the only difficult part will be deciding which you prefer!

Christmas Celebration Bakes
Put the cheer into your holiday baking with these fun and festive treats. You’ll be creating a flavorful apple & cinnamon frosty and your own scrumptious Christmas crown, perfect for gifts or for your own holiday table!

Festive Party Food
During this workshop you’ll prepare your very own rough puff pastry to make herbed pork sausage rolls, cheese twists and an absolute classic party treat, vol au vents. We’re certain you’ll never buy ready made puff pastry again! We will discuss vegetarian options during the baking workshop, however we are not able to provide alternative fillings for the sausage rolls.

Yule Log
In this half day workshop, you’ll create your very own yule log (or bûche de noël as the French say). You’ll bake the sponge, roll it, mix your icing and decorate it, to finally emerge with this decadent alternative to Christmas pudding. Who knows, you may just decide to make it a year round tradition! You’ll also be baking a batch of festive amaretti, perfect for gifting.

Festive Italian
Italian cuisine will always serve as a wonderful source of inspiration and during the festive period we love to include classic Italian flavours in our baking. On this half day workshop you’ll bake a seasonal onion focaccia, which would make a delicious addition to a cheeseboard. A festive clementine and almond cake and some classic almond biscotti, delicious with a little digestif or after dinner coffee. Bellissimo.

Whichever of these London foodie experiences you choose, you'll have the full support of your hosts throughout, who'll make sure everyone goes home not only with their newfound baking skills, but with some delicious bakes to enjoy with friends and family.

This class could contain wheat, rye, dairy, egg, nuts and sulphites. Unfortunately recipes cannot be tailored for substitutions or alterations, as these can fundamentally change the composition and outcome of the recipes. For more information regarding ingredients, please contact your teacher before booking your course.

Matthew started his working life as a chef. His first 15 years were spent working alongside some of the best chefs in the UK throughout the 90s. In 2000 he set up his first bakery business. Based in the renowned Borough Market, Bread Ahead has become a destination for Londoners and food fanatics across the globe.

The Bakery School opened in February 2014 and is designed to show the public just how easy baking good bread can be.

Since then, Bread Ahead has grown – the school at Borough has expanded and Matthew has since opened further bakeries and schools in Pavilion Road, Chelsea, Wembley and a café bakery in Beak Street, Soho.
