Artist Talk Supper Club

If you're interested in hearing from a talented artist while enjoying some delicious food made by a talented chef, come along to this fantastic evening event from Art4Space.

Next artist is Claudette Forbes.

Claudette will be presenting her work followed by a Q&A.

There will also be supper from Chef Rima Rouf-Choudhury, who will be showcasing a delicious 3-course menu for us on 3rd May.

A big thank you to Adrian Flower from Brixton Art Prize. Art4Space has been collaborating closely with Brixton Art Prize, as a chosen community partner, since the exhibition in 2022, where Claudette won the second prize. Brixton Art Prize actively supports Art4Space with community development and partners with our Artist Palette series. Adrian will be joining Julie to host and moderate the Q&A session with Claudette.

Claudette Forbes:
Claudette Forbes is an award winning ceramicist.

She was born and raised in inner city Bristol, England, to Jamaican parents. As a teenager, the race riots in her neighbourhood in 1980 made a lasting impression on her. Her curiosity about the government's attempts to fix things ultimately led to her pursuing a career in combatting inner city deprivation. These experiences are reflected in her art.

Her creations are both provocative and subversive, infused with playfulness and humour. Seeking to test interpretations of the present day, she produces tangible objects that contain a certain beauty and references a past.

She brings her musical skills to create soundscapes to accompany her ceramic installations. These inspire and enhance her conceptual development and her making.

Claudette uses the full palette of ceramic techniques, emphasising surface decoration with mono-print slip transfers, digital decals and metallic lustres. She also experiments with the addition of non-ceramic materials.

The evening will start with drinks reception from 7pm, then 7.30 pm Claudette will be in presenting her work followed by Q&A led by Adrian Flower, founder of Brixton Art Prize, and Art4Space's Director, Julie Norburn. 8.30 pm - 10 pm we will have 3 course Supper from Chef Rima.

Chef Rima Rouf-Choudhury:
Rima Rouf-Choudhury, a proud British Bangladeshi, was raised amidst the aromatic spices of her family's Indian restaurant, the first of its kind in West London's Chiswick. Her journey began with a passion for culinary arts, nurtured by her upbringing. After obtaining a BSc in Cognitive Science, she ventured into the dynamic world of television production, working for leading broadcasters such as the BBC.



During the challenging times of lockdown, Rima's culinary prowess blossomed anew. A simple act of kindness—a donation of her traditional Vegan Kichuri for a charity fundraiser—propelled her into the realm of homemade healthy foods. What started as a school fundraiser soon evolved into Chit Chat Pans, a flourishing catering venture serving South West London.



Driven by a desire for community engagement, Rima pivoted her business towards social impact. Joining forces with Lambeth charity Healthy Living Platform, she became a food ambassador, championing nourishing, plant-based cuisine. She also recently assumed the role of Social Media and Communications Manager for Thriving Stockwell, an initiative dedicated to reducing social and health inequalities in Stockwell, while also now embarking on a special qualification in Culinary Medicine.

Rima's culinary journey embodies her ethos: to create food that not only delights the palate but also nourishes the body, mind, and soul. Inspired by her Bangladeshi roots and passionate about adding her fusion twist to create new ways to innovate and impress her customers, Rima will be serving us a 3-course treat: Starting off with her bestseller, Desi Shingaras, pyramid-shaped pastries stuffed with a masala vegetable mix accompanied by a mint-yogurt sauce with roasted cumin. The main course will be Chinigura Turmeric Pilau, a type of aromatic small grain rice, grown exclusively in Bangladesh served with a Mixed Lentil & Vegetable Curry.

To end the culinary journey and sweeten the palette, you can much into a Naikol Fob (naikol means coconut in Bengali and Fob is the name for this type of sweet dessert). This consists of a semicircle-shaped pastry filled with finely grated coconut filling seasoned with spices and sweetened with organic cane sugar.

We will have a cocktail or juice upon arrival. Alcohol included and/ or a range of non- alcoholic drinks.
