Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together by embracing the cracks using the gold mica powder blowing method.
In this class that honours the traditional Japanese art of fixing with gold, an experienced and friendly teacher from Art4Space will guide you every step of the way so that you leave with beautiful symbolic pottery to treasure.
As well as enjoying the hands-on experience with all the materials provided, you will also learn a little about the history and philosophy of Kintsugi. We create up to two classic Japanese bowls. You also have the option to bring your own crockery (vase, plate, bowl, cup) and we can explore how to fix this the best way.
Join your teacher in their creative, inclusive and welcoming environment and enjoy this unique London activity with friends for an extra special birthday party or team-building event idea.
Your teachers are people who love the reflection, symbolism and art of Kintsugi. We have mastered the best results – one of our teachers recently returned from living in Japan and follows the wabi-sabi philosophy to domestic recycling. So don’t throw that pot away, come and join us! Plus we provide you with up to 2 traditional Japanese bowls.
For private bookings, we can also arrange to come to your venue and please note it's £54 per person for private bookings for 2-2.5 hour workshop plus travel expenses when we come to you. We are flexible with timing; day, evening or weekend, according to availability.
Proceeds go towards our community art projects providing vulnerable individuals with mental health support in deprived areas in Lambeth, London.
