Cake Covering and Decorating Class

Learn how to cover and decorate a celebration cake.



5.5 hours Class size 1 to 3     label £135

Do you struggle to cover a cake with smooth, sharp edges? If so, this is the class for you. A One Day course (9.30am to 3.30pm), covering all the basic techniques of covering and decorating a six-inch cake.

You will learn how to split the cake, fill it with conserve and buttercream, crumb coat, and coat it with buttercream. You will then cover the cake with sugar paste and decorate both the cake and the board.

To ensure personal tuition the maximum number of participants on this course is three. The course is for adults only.

Classes taking place in November will take a festive theme by creating and decorating the six-inch cake as a Christmas Snowman.


Knowledge required
Some experience of cake making and decorating cakes is desirable.
 
What you'll get
  • All materials, ingredients and equipment will be provided.
  • Tara House Bakery will provide a six-inch and four-layer, cake per person, for decorating.
  • Boxes will be available to transport the finished cake.
  • Light refreshments will be provided throughout the day
What to bring
Participants will need to bring their own packed lunch.

This venue is about 4000 metres from Junction 3 of the M42, just off the A435 towards Redditch. A slip road off the A435 is signposted to Portway.

Jane Bridgewater is a highly qualified chef and has been teaching and training chefs in further education colleges for 20 years. She was a BBC MasterChef Finalist in the 1990s and she started Tara House Bakery some ten years ago. She is now a successful baker and cake designer and wants to pass on her skills, knowledge and expertise to future cake makers. A range of cake decorating courses during the year will include vintage, wedding and Christmas cupcake decorating.
