What you'll do
Whether you're looking for a unique gift for someone special or you're keen to learn new handicraft techniques to help you decorate your home, join Japanese textile artist Emi Fujisawa for a workshop in the two Japanese techniques Sashiko (stitching), and Shibori (resist dyeing), to make a very special tea towel from a vintage piece of cloth.
Sashiko is an old Japanese craft technique traditionally used to decorate clothing and homewares with contrasting stitches, and shibori is a very inventive 1500-year-old art technique that's similar to tie-dye.
Under Emi's expert guidance, you will transform the piece of cloth into a beautiful indigo-dyed tea towel, with a special resist pattern of a flower or leaf — to bring home and add a unique bit of handmade flair to your kitchen.
Apart from learning these techniques, you'll also be introduced to dyeing with indigo.
Tea will be served while you’re working away with your stitching, and you'll have plenty of help and guidance from Emi to make sure your tea towel turns out the way you'd like it.
