Ruth Darling

Ruth Darling was first introduced to life story work during the Covid pandemic. She started to work as a home carer and the initial training highlighted its power to support well-being and person-centred care, especially for older people.

Understanding the lives of the people she cared for was so important to build relationships, with clients as well as their families, and give them an opportunity to remember and talk about the whole of their lives, not just their present situation.
She has since combined life story scrapbooking with her career as a freelancer working in the cultural sector and recently co-ordinated a life story project with Halton Libraries.
Through Life Story Hive, she creates life story scrapbooks with the support of other freelance colleagues who are designers, editors and proofreaders.

One of the things you learn in life is that telling stories and capturing them is so important. Many people have bought things to capture stories, whether it's a camera, microphone, video camera, or even a notebook, and don't ever get down to doing it because they don't really know how to do it, ” Simon Hepburn, Owner of Share Your Story.
Share Your Story first opened its doors in May 2025. It is a creative hub in the heart of Altrincham where you can receive the help, inspiration, and support to tell stories that create lasting impressions about the important things in your life.
Share Your Story is a unique space, with a fully equipped creative studio at the back which is available for hire for podcasting, video, and photography. Within this space, Share Your Story also provides courses in photography, writing, and creative content.
