At the Edinburgh School Of Icon Painting, we welcome experimentation and innovation as well as the classical method of icon painting. Tradition is a dynamic force that is ever-changing, so don't be afraid to bring your unique ideas and contemporary approach to the table. Play with technique and colour to make something you can be proud of!
You will learn the basics of the technique and traditional styles of icon painting. Which include:
  • Composition skills used in icon painting.
  • The Byzantine and Russian styles of the art form.
  • How to prepare egg yolk binding medium.
  • Learning how to make paints from dry pigments.
  • How to work with thin layers.
  • Egg tempera brushwork.
  • Dry brushwork.
Knowledge required
All are welcome and no experience is required.
