What you'll do

Come and learn a new craft at this unique and engaging two-day workshop where you will create your very own stunning spinner ring in silver.

Spinner rings combine two rings, one that moves around the outside of another. They are an elegant and striking addition to your jewellery collection.

In this course, you will learn to form metals into a ring band before adding embellishments by creating texture and hand-cut shapes in the silver. Guided by Heather, a friendly and skilled teacher, you will cover many techniques including cutting, filing, forming, soldering and polishing metals as well as how to use a variety of tools.

Materials are included to make a single, standard-width ring band. If you would like to upgrade to a wider or longer 'wrapped' ring band or add set gemstones, there will be an extra fee that you can pay to the teacher on the day. You can also make wedding bands but you will need to talk to Heather beforehand.

Your teacher

Heather Coleman

Heather is an ex-engineer of 20 years, who retrained in jewellery and silversmithing at the world-renowned Birmingham City University, School of Jewellery.

She has received national awards for her designs and brings an engineer's problem-solving approach to the technical challenges of making jewellery.
Her work is inspired by a childhood spent in the Gloucestershire countryside and a lifelong passion for gothic architecture.

The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.

We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.

The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.

The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
