What you'll do

Are you looking for a fun and creative way to brighten up your day? Build your confidence with the knitting needles or the crochet hook at this hands-on Bristol craft class, where you will make textile flowers and leaves.

We recommend that you already have some experience with knitting and crocheting before coming to this class.

In this workshop, you'll discover the joy of transforming simple yarn into colourful, blooming flowers and lush leaves. You can then take these home and use them to decorate baskets, clothing, hair or anything else that takes your fancy. They also make beautiful handmade gifts!

You'll have the freedom to create flowers and leaves in any size you like, depending on the needle size you pick. Plenty of patterns and information will be provided to inspire you and build your knowledge.

At the end of this crochet and knitting class, you will walk away with your nature-inspired yarn objects and some new textile skills to help you embellish your future DIY projects.

The Folk House has no level access or accessible facilities.
You must be aged 18 or over.

Shirley has knitted and crocheted since she was a child, as she was lucky enough to have relatives who are all good stitchers. This lead her to completing a textiles degree in the late 90s as a mature student.

Having found that individual good quality knit and crochet items can be expensive to find and buy, she decided she would like to pass on her skills, so started teaching part-time, and has now been teaching for over 15 years.

Shirley’s philosophy is that anyone can produce beautiful and individual items if they have the skills and ideas.

The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.

We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.

The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.

The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
