What you'll do

Discover the beautiful and diverse architecture of Bristol through the art of sketching. Find inspiration in this beautiful city, with its recognised breadth of architectural styles and striking historical buildings.

In this drawing workshop, you will create accurate and dynamic sketches using one and two-point perspectives. Then you will bring your pieces to life with watercolours paint to add depth and texture.

Through demonstrations, you will gain an understanding of the unique qualities of each architectural period, ranging from the twelfth century to the twentieth century. You will also develop your knowledge of Bristol's rich historical timeline, and use this to capture the character of the key buildings you draw.

This Bristol activity not only offers the opportunity to improve your sketching skills, but it also can help you connect with other artists through social groups such as Bristol Urban Sketchers.

Andy is passionate about observational drawing and painting. Previously teaching drawing at UWE and the City of Bristol College he now works with a variety of clients on both corporate and private commissions and educational projects.

Helping people to develop their own individual styles of expression and tell their own stories, through the exploration and documentation of the visual world, he encourages and guides the way with new techniques and skills.

Referencing the history of art and design to provide context for the experimental use of materials and composition, the sessions are invariably both fascinating and fun.

The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.

We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.

The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.

The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
