Course Overview:
This FACE-FACE course will cover “Clouds Pattern in the Art of Illumination” by artist Nagihan Seymour.

Cloud motifs are historically coming from China but they started to be used in the 15th Century in Turkish Illumination. During this course, you will learn different types of cloud motifs such as free-moving clouds, separation clouds, their design principles, and how to use them with other biomorphic motifs like florals alongside their historical background. The painting techniques will be applied step by step on the pattern we will conduct together.

The design principles of clouds can be applied to different media from manuscripts to ceramics and textiles.

During this course, you will learn how to construct your own cloud pattern and you will be supported with regular homework assignments. At the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of several cloud patterns.

This course will include a visit to British Museum to see Islamic art collection in one of the Saturdays during the course.

The course will be taught according to the traditional training and the educational model used in Istanbul, which has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of years.
