Picture this: I'm knee-deep in writing my master's thesis when a bowl crashes to the floor, seemingly of its own free will. Rather than tossing it aside, I felt an urge to repair it — a simple decision that would change the course of my career. Little did I know that this seemingly small craft project would ignite a lifelong passion for the art of kintsugi.

Teaching myself the intricacies of this Japanese practice became an obsession. I was drawn not just to the physical act of mending but also to the philosophy behind it — the idea that we can honor the cracks and breaks of an object and ourselves without erasing the history that put them there.

After my first successful repair, I found myself daydreaming about improving upon each subsequent piece, scouring charity shops for chipped ceramics to rescue and restore. My obsession eventually filled my room with beautifully revitalized treasures in need of new homes. It was during this journey that Precious Scars Studio was born. Over the past six years, I've been wholeheartedly immersed in the art of kintsugi, continuously refining my skills. Additionally, for a year and a half I taught kintsugi under another artist, cultivating an average 5-star rating for over 400 guests. In late 2023, I decided to start a new venture, under my own name, focusing on repairs using precious metals and delving deep into the historical intricacies of the beautiful art form.

Teaching kintsugi was something of an accident, but it turned out to be a delightful one. Sharing this craft with others, I discovered the joy of guiding them through their own creative journeys. What I hope people take away from my course is not just a beautifully repaired piece of art, but also the profound sense of pride that comes from knowing they did it with their own hands. Beyond that, I hope they leave with positive memories of learning this craft in the company of kindred spirits. Because kintsugi, to me, is not just about fixing ceramics — it's about embracing the beauty of resilience and cherishing the imperfections that make life, and art, truly extraordinary.

Me and my amazing girlfriend went for our Valentines Day celebrations and the class was fantastic. The teacher was very helpful and informative about the history behind Kintsugi, for something that could have been frustrating she guided us through the process peacefully creating a great atmosphere. The reclaimed pots added a nice sustainable touch too, would definitely try again.

Beginner's Gintsugi Workshop review by Sophie - London

I attended this class with modest expectations, but thanks to our fantastic teacher, Kira, the experience exceeded my imagination. Kira's infectious passion for Kintsugi, extensive knowledge and well-prepared sessions ( everything was beautifully prepared for us - tools, materials, work stations) created a captivating learning environment. Apart from the practice, Kira has introduced us to the history of this art form and showed us the multiple alternatives of kintsugi you normally would not even find online. Kira's patience and sense of humor and lovely personality made the class both informative and engaging. Her dedication, encouragement and patience inspired confidence in me. Kira's style of kintsugi is very similar to the original, most traditional way, therefore it requires few weeks. She also uses real gold or silver, hence the price of the workshop.
I could never believe I will be able to fix things and do it so nicely- but now I do! I highly recommend Kintsugi Kira's classes to those eager to explore this beautiful art form.

Kira was a wonderful teacher! She created a very warm and inclusive class, was totally approachable. We loved her personalised narratives and historical knowledge, all told simply and with anecdotal flair. The pace of the class seemed careful and considerate, and the materials were beautifully prepared, including lovely
and thoughtful little touches throughout. The studio is an impressive and dynamic space, and felt fun to be around. It’s a meditative as well as interactive few hours, and was a total joy, with an well-earnt take-home at the end too! Thank you Kira!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Kintsugi course! Kira (our instructor) provided clear, step-by-step guidance, making the ancient art of repairing with gold truly accessible. The hands-on experience was both meditative and rewarding. I now feel confident in embracing imperfections and turning broken pieces into beautiful, unique creations. Highly recommended!
