Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

Lovely friendly teacher. I came home and started to put into practice what I'd learnt and make a crochet square. The tutor was excellent and very patient. I liked that she actually taught us and nothing was too much trouble to go over again. I'd tried videos but so much better being taught almost one to one. Thank you.

Amanda was brilliant; I didn’t take my machine but we had my instructions and she matched a machine as close as possible. Amanda was very patient whilst I took my turn at threading and sewing and then took me through my instruction book to point out other features. I just need to practice now, but will be back for more lessons!

Not enough time. Had to rush to make a flower and a wand. Very frustrating. These courses are NOT designed for young children.
1 hour should be the minimum time allocated for courses like that.

The lady that did the class was very nice and talked to my grand daughters a lot. An idea was put forward as what to paint on the canvas and although my six year old granddaughter would have liked to paint something else, I felt she was pushed into doing what the "teacher" had suggested. Although this wasn't done in a bullying way and my grand daughter was happy with her canvas.

I did the crochet beginners class for 1.5 hours in Rochester HobbyCraft, the teacher was great, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Some wool and a crochet hook was provided so all I needed for the class and to practice after, I learnt a few stitches, enough for a beginner to be getting on with, and I would return to do a further course later on.

I had a one to one crochet session at Strood, for one hour with Amanda, who was lovely. She was friendly , patient and understanding as well as being a brilliant teacher. I asked for revision in changing the colour of my wool when making a granny square, as well as general reassurance with my stitches. The hour with her undivided attention was so beneficial, and excellent value for money. I left feeling I had learnt what I wanted to learn, and feeling very happy.

Amanda @ Strood was really nice. After she had us gathered at the table she went off and got us a canvas bag each which contained a hook, 2 balls of wool and an instruction booklet. I was really surprised with the bag, it was much more than I was expecting. As it was the total beginners class we learnt how to make the initial chain, double and treble stiches and how to interweave a second colour. Amanda was very patient with us all and was very efficient at splitting her time equally between the 4 participants, helping where help was needed and encouragement when we had grasped the idea. Getting the bag, wool and hook made it very good value for money and I was so please to be able to bring it all home so I can continue my practising. Will definitely be booking on more classes.

Just had my sewing machine lesson with Amanda at Hobbycraft Strood and I’ve got to say it was brilliant, Amanda showed me loads of things about my machine ( settings, different stitches, buttons and button holes etc ) that l was a bit nervous about using before, but she made it so easy to do and l have definitely come away with more confidence in my machine and myself, so thank you Amanda, l will pop in with my finished project when it’s done x

Amanda is a brilliant teacher with the patience of a saint, perfect for a curious beginner. She had everything set up to go when I arrived and had clearly planned what to cover with me to make the best use of the time. I had loads of questions, especially about fabrics and various sewing and sewing machine accessories. She covered machine maintenance which was great and something I hadn't considered. A great session I highly recommend.

I wish we had had just a little more time but saying that, we did finish both and have used the excess on out crackers (home made) so altogether a good mornings wirk. It was ok, but there wasn’t enough supplies of different colour paint pens.
The lady running it was very lovely, no reflection on her, just would have been good to have more Christmas colours seeing as it was a Christmas decorating activity.
(Golds, silvers etc) and more to go around. As the activity is limited on time and therefore you don’t want to have to keep waiting for someone to finish.

Unfortunately, I really wanted to learn about cutting thicker items like wood with a deep point blade but this wasn’t possible as the software used in Hobbycraft was not compatible.

The lady who provided the course was helpful, apologetic and friendly but to be honest I could have learnt more on YouTube.

The lady demonstrator was lovely and very helpful. She demonstrated the use of the inks on the gel solution using the ceramic baubles, which worked well up to a point. Unfortunately the solution does not stay clean and subsequent dipping of any object would pick up the previous colour. The solution would need changing very often otherwise subsequent marbling of objects would not be consistent in their colour. This would mean making up large amounts of the solution in advance of any marbling.The ceramic baubles really need to be sealed first as they are porous and the colour sank in too quickly, giving a Matt look. The demonstrator brought out gold paint which gave a more successful finish. More time needs to be allowed for customers work to dry as some of the bauble design was lost due to having to pack them away before they fully dried. The course was enjoyable and it was reasonable value for money, especially with a Hobbycraft bag freebie. However I would not purchase the Pebeo marbling products as the results are not as expected and the inks expensive.

I bought my first sewing machine and booked in for a session to go over how to actually use it.The instructor was great and had a nice teaching style. They set up the exact sewing machine model I had and she showed me how to do various setup tasks before getting me to do it myself to make sure I understood. We played around with the different settings and she explained when I might want to use various stitches, needle types, tensions etc. Would definitely recommend

I had my one-to-one knitting workshop session today with Amanda. I took in my own pattern, wool and needles together with my partially knitted garment. After explaining my predicament at not being able to understand the pattern at the raglan armhole stage and after Amanda worked out which row I was on she expertly diagnosed that in fact the pattern was wrong and then worked out how I should proceed. I gave it a try and it worked. I don’t think I could have done this without Amanda’s expertise. I was later invited to join the knitting group which was directly after my session to which I did and will do so again in the near future

My daughter really enjoyed making / decorating her canvas. She took her time making sure every detail was perfect, but finishing with 25 minute's to spare. The hobby craft employee was very polite and helped the children when needed. However 3 out of the 5 children got to make 2 canvas's as there were spares. My daughter and another girl couldn't make a second canvas as there were not enough to go around, this caused upset, especially for the other girl whose brother made 2. Perhaps next time there should only be one canvas and no additionals given out, or make sure there is enough to go around before giving out the spares. It really wasn't fair on those who didn't get a second canvas.

I signed up for the Woven Pen Pots class with my two daughters and we all loved it.
Carol led the class, there was plenty of space as it was only us, and she was prepared with materials.
My girls enjoyed weaving, and loved that they could take the pots home afterwards.
We've done a few kids lessons during the holidays and always enjoy them.

Had a lovely one to one crochet lesson with Amanda today as I was the only person to book this particular workshop.
Amanda was very friendly, informative and happily answered all my questions while teaching me basic stitches and crochet methods. I had already started to crochet with online tutorials but definitely needed Amanda’s advice and guidance in person to really learn the basics and to have the option to ask questions as I worked. She helped me to understand a pattern I took along with me and I was overall very pleased with how the lesson went.
Would like a follow up lesson to learn some more advanced work.

I attended a beginners crochet course at the Strood, Kent store. Alison was an excellent teacher. She was very friendly and put us at ease, then was very thorough in her explaining and showing us. She took time to help us individually and was very patient and encouraging. The 2 different colour wool balls and crochet hook were provided in a hessian bag. She informed us of a knit and natter group that we can come to and ask any more questions or for help. I found it a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.

I really enjoyed my class and was really pleased to leave knowing the basics of Crochet which I can now build on. The teacher was great and extremely patient! Although the table on which we learnt was in the middle of the store I didn’t even notice as I was engrossed in what I was doing. All in all I was very pleased with the class.

I had booked an Easter Bonnet workshop but received a call to say that there were no bonnets left in the shop! We were offered a different workshop, the girl was very lovely, but wasn’t very hands on with the children. A bit of a disappointing experience after the fun they had at the Halloween workshop last year.

We came last Saturday and Michelle was the lady that took the class. It was a lovely hour and my Granddaughter was really pleased with the results of her bonnet. Michelle had lots on the table to put on the hats and everything was shared very well in fact there was more than enough to go around everyone. I shall certainly come again. Well done Michelle.

I was able to choose which cricut machine I wanted guidance with, and Paige was fab from start to finish and definitely and asset to the Rochester store. I was able to choose my own design as well as choose which colour to use for the pattern. Although I’m not overly knowledgable with cricut, I wasn’t made to feel that way. It’s given me a good insight into the cricut mug press and how to go it alone

The instructor was very patient and she made sure everyone understood the steps she was teaching us before moving on. The course was value for money, which included the necessary equipment. It came in a neatly, well presented, wrapped parcel in a box. The venue was very well lit and we didn't feel cramped up. I am going away from the course with knowledge of beginners crochet tecniques. The group size (6 including teacher) was the perfect number.

Our teacher Janine was very good. She clearly explained what was going to happen, and how long we had and introduced the workshop well.

She was very patient and went around the group several times offering words of encouragement and observations on things we could do better. I had tried this lettering before attending the workshop but this was an hour well spent. The stuff we got to use at home after the workshop was excellent.

Venue was fine but just a little crowded with 5 participants plus the teacher.
Teacher was knowledgable but maybe need d time between classes to set up properly.
The description states you come away with two paintings but only one framed canvas was provided so it was suggested to only do this one. A little misleading but it was fine. Other smaller canvases were provided to take home.
Teacher was very friendly and happy to answer questions and suggest further classes which were not beginner.

Brought my 3yr old granddaughter to make Xmas tree decorations at the Rochester branch. Turns out we was the only ones there. Michelle was out craft teacher. Such a lovely friendly lady who was so kind in everything she did. Michelle gave clear understanding on how to make the items. My granddaughter loved using the materials and learnt how to use different things to make her colourful decorations. Well worth the money and great kids to do. I have attended previous kids workshops and would highly recommend. Thank you to Michelle for being so understanding with my granddaughter being shy. She had fun and said after we left that she enjoyed doing it and will go again. I look forward to seeing what further kids workshops will be in the future.

Im disabled so when i was in store and i made an appointmentfor the following week. They lady kathleen knew i needed a chair. When i got arrived the chair was already in place. Everything was prepared. My tutor Kathleen took me step by step through how to use the software and the cutter. I really feel now i can confidently use the machine and the design software thanks to kathleen tutorial. Will definitely be booking other lessons. A must if you want to buy such machines.

Had a good afternoon with Amanda painting my advent calendar.
Unfortunately due to Royal Mail strikes my kit did not make it to store. They did however more than make up for that by sorting out items off the shelf.
Venue was good and plenty of space to work.
Good value for money. Did not get time to complete, but it does say that in the pre booking. So it would have been great for this to be a 3 hour workshop, even if the 1st hour was self taught as it is just painting , that way you can get help with the stenciling and decoration

Our teacher Michelle was great with the children. She interacted with them, asking them about themselves, taking a real interest in them. Everything they asked for, eg coloured clay, she provided. She also showed them how to use the various tools that she had provided. When she couldn’t find any rolling pins, she improvised with the roll of cardboard from the inside of some material. My three grandchildren had an amazing time and can’t wait to go again.

The workshop was very helpful and I’m very thankful for Kathleen at the Rochester branch. She was very informative and able to answer any questions I had (I had loads).
We got to work with the Cricut pens, paper and vinyl so it was really interesting to see how the machine works with different materials as well as how to use design space which was super handy.
I learnt loads and more than anything it’s given me the motivation to try more at home. I even made my first Christmas decoration tonight so the course is definitely good value for money and it’s also nice to meet other creators.

I arrived before the time allocated, and we started the project we were to under take, but unfortunately the paper, blade, mat we were using was causing the paper to rip, this took about half and hour to fix, and by that time, time was running out, so i have now come home with bits that i am unsure how goes together, I think each class needs to be about 1.5hours as last week i had another lesson and didn't have enough time in that class either but we had no issues with that class.

I found the venue for this activity was good and easy accessible for us to come to.
The teacher was friendly and welcoming to the children.
I would possibly recommend that maybe some tools could be provided so that the children could make patterns on the clay creatures they made. Also maybe allocating extra colours to the children individually so they don’t have to keep asking when they need other colours.

This is the first workshop that I have booked at Hobbycraft and was for my 5 year old granddaughter. She had a lovely time and really enjoyed painting her canvas. The teacher was very helpful and friendly, the materials were good. I am looking at the other workshops that you run and will definitely be booking another. Good value.

Just wanted to say thank you to Amanda, she was patient and instructive. I had never crocheted before and she needed the patience of a Saint! I was very cack handed !
The venue was clean and tidy and quiet, I was lucky enough to receive 121 tutorial, which was probably a good job.

The length of time, 1.5hrs was enough and have me time to learn a couple of new skills.

I was also provided with a brand new box with wool and a crochet hook and instructions. This I was able to take away with me to keep practising. Which is probably o good job really.

Overall, I was very pleased with everything and it was worth the money I paid for the session Which wasn't exorborant.

Today's tutorial of Circuit Maker 3 with James at Hobby Craft in Strood was informative. I came away understanding how the machine works in it's basic form which is all you can achieve from a 20/30 minute session. Sadly I wasn't able to see all the different cutting tools perform first hand since only the basic cutter was available. That said, James talked me through the different cutting tips and their uses/limitations. The tutorial was fairly cheap and I'd say good value.

My grandson had a great time at this workshop. Amanda was very kind, friendly, polite, helpful. The workshop was handled very well, clean and tidy. The materials used worked really well. There was the use of clay, Google eyes and my grandson was pleased to be able to bring his creations home. The price was good value for money. My teacher was lovely and patiently answered all of the questions I had about Cricut. She was very knowledgeable and it was useful to hear her experiences with using the Cricut machines. She talked me through how the machine and software work and we worked through a vinyl-cut project which I then took home with me. I attended the workshop as I wasn't a hundred percent sure whether Cricut was for me, but the session gave me a very useful overview and after going home and a lot of consideration I decided to buy a Cricut Maker. I would definitely recommend the workshop.

I had a great class with Kathleen, I spoke to her regarding my cricut machine as I was a newbee to it, Kathleen introduced me to the class which I was interested in as I only know the tutorials on utube. Was great having someone show you. I was able to have a go too, all questions answered, I was able to go home and use my machine. I was given great service. Kathleen is very friendly and knows her stuff! I will be going to see her again for more information when needed. It's great when the colleague enjoys doing the class too as you get lots of information. Now all I gotta do it keep practicing.

Fantastic one to one sewing with with Amanda. She helped me figure out how to use my sewing machine by threading the bobbin, threading the sewing machine and how to use, I was able to practice all the skills that I had learnt and continue at home. She also went through the foots, buttonhole, zippers and all the extra pieces I may need in the future. I was very impressed with her knowledge as my machine the placement was different from other machines and there were a couple of issues with the machine that she was able to figure out. Jannine our Artisan was fantastic. Very attentive, helpful and was very clear in explanation. Could have done with longer than an hour but a great beginners guide. Also very impress with the starter kit, all individually boxed and wrapped in tissue paper.

We had a great time. Michelle (Hobbycraft staff) was ready for us as we arrived. She “fitted” the crowns to ensure the children had the right size. Plenty of jewels and pom poms and sequins available. Michelle had models of what the children could do and was very patient in helping them develop their own designs. Great value for money. Kids absolutely loved the sock puppet making class. Staff member was amazing and supported as I took 3 kids so was there with helping hand as I couldn’t do all 3 at once. Even got to take the other 3 home to do with the kids at home. Great value for money, was a hour long session but kids played for hours when they got home. Thank-you jannine-Rochester

Amy, the teacher, was friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had a good selection of suncatchers, the girls found something they wanted to paint.

Great class. I was made to feel very welcome.
The class went at my own pace and I leant lots of new skills. It was definitely worth while and I shall be booking another class soon.
Afterwards I was helped to find the items I needed in the store to give it a go by myself at home.

•I met with Paige and Kathleen. They were both fantastic, shared their knowledge with me and gave me some good tips.
What was the place like?
•Unfortunately, the place disappointed me because it was in a shop with a lot of people around. I would prefer a secluded place where you could sit down quietly (I stood for an hour).
If materials were provided, did you like it?
•We did not use many materials.
However, I recommend it

Amanda was welcoming and thorough in her delivery. Venue was good and fit for purpose. Machines used were suited for demonstrations and tuition. Very good value for money. Would have been happy to pay a bit more for a longer session. Learnt how to look for load thread and bobbins. Practiced zig zag stitching.

My and my boys went to paint ceramics and they both loved it. The lady running it, Carol, was lovely and we'll be back to another workshop for sure! It's very nice to have something like this close to home, gives a sense of community and it's even better knowing that the money will go to charity.
It's a shame that the workshops sell out so quickly, but I understand why this happens. Lovely activity for the afternoon.

Took 4 children under 5 to this. Staff were very patient and complimentary to their creative efforts. Children were able to choose from the shelves which ceramic to paint and paints and brushes etc were provided. Great value for money - thoroughly recommend these workshops.

Really friendly member of staff helped the children choose their canvas. A selection of brushes a d paints offered - children really enjoyed the creative activity and Nanny appreciated not having to clear up afterwards! I'd thoroughly recommend these workshops. Timings are great for little ones. Great value for money!

I was the only student, Jannine was a patient teacher I was shown a lot different techniques . The only down side was my class kit box hasn't arrived in time for the class but all the necessary equipment was gathered from the store and a gift voucher was issued to apologise. My lesson today with the Cricut tutor in the Strood, Rochester branch was excellent . As a new convert he answered all my questions and was keen to get me to try things out to build my confidence. I can’t wait to set my own Maker3 up and join more classes.
The store is well laid out and all the staff extremely friendly and helpful, but a stool to perch would have helped me. He helped us so much we bought a press2 to add to our collection. I only wish the blades in the maker, we’re also in the maker3.

I went to learn the basics of Cricut and felt that I came our with lots of info to digest. I never felt obliged to purchase and was really happy with the knowledge gained. I will definitely go back to learn more! The store was fantastic! Well laid out and other staff members were very friendly.

Wow I can't review this highly enough ,although it was only my booking at the session it was so lovely , the teacher was so kind,welcoming and joined in with the activities , it all was very natural chatting ,myself ,sister husband and the 3 children all enjoyed it ,even our youngest at 16 months adored it , we look forward to booking again and hope we have the same lovely teacher she made our Xmas Eve a little more special that day x

It was nice to receive our own box. There was extra pieces available to use which made it more worth the price. We were surprised the lady leading the group sat and made one as she wasn’t able to help us individually and it didn’t really help with ideas.
There were 5 plug in points for the glue gun and rather than the paying customers using them, one was used for the store lady and others had to share.

Really good class, Paige was an excellent teacher, the material supplied were excellent. Only one criticism, nowhere to wash your hands after using clay, so had to leave the shop with very white clay hands which felt awful.

Jack was my 'teacher' and he was great but as a person not as a teacher and I lay all the blame for this at Hobbycrafts door.
Hobbycraft recommend the fluid art class for and I quote -
'Whether you’re looking to brush up on your skills or you’re completely new to Fluid Art, this is a great way to learn simple techniques'.
The workshop will involve ring pouring and flip cup pouring, showing you different ways to pour your paint to achieve two beautiful results.

The Hobbycraft Artisan will take you through each step of the pouring process, guiding you with tips and tricks along the way'.

I am no expert at fluid art and was looking for guidance and as Hobbycraft suggests, 'it is to brush up on my skills'. Jack had only tried fluid art at home and was no more advanced then myself, so if you have never attempted this art then it's a good place to start but if you're on the same level as me then don't waste your money, I didn't need the craft box ( paints, canvas etc) as I have all these already, but was willing to pay the £40 for advice.

I had a rewarding time with Jack who is an asset to Hobbycraft but if Hobbycraft are going to promote these classes then they need to provide a member of their 'artisan staff' who has experience and more knowledge then the pupil.

Hobbycraft need to rewrite the description of the class because in my view it is false advertising.

Unfortunately the machine I bought would not connect to the internet so I was shown on a different one.
The representative was very helpful and informative and I felt I did pick up very useful information. I did get to try the project out for myself which is a great help when learning. I would recommend having the 1-1 session to anyone starting out.

Janine our teacher was excellent, she has a lovely warm manner which put me at ease and Janine encouraged us with praise.

The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the location of the class, I would have preferred it if we were sitting in a more secluded spot rather than in the middle of the shop floor.

I was pleased with the Hobbycraft workshop box containing everything I need so I can carry on practicing at home.

The time went so quick, which is a good sign of a good class.

I would recommend the brush lettering course .
