Whether you want to enjoy crafting from the comfort of your own home or you’re looking to meet new people as you get making, these craft workshops offer something for everyone.

Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

I really enjoyed the beginners crochet class, I was lucky to have the tutor all to myself which was great! Ailidh (I hope I have her name correctly!) Was patient, kind and encouraging, and made everything clear and straightforward. The materials were great and on the whole this was fantastic value for money! Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of having a go at crochet for the first time.

This was a basic introduction to using a sewing machine for my adult daughter and a revision of skills long since forgotten for meWe were taken through the basics of the sewing machine offering advice as we went on before trying out all the features. Suggestions were made on how to use them throughout. We learnt how to make button holes and put in a zip. It was at the perfect pace and any questions we had were answered.
It was an extremely worthwhile session and now we are both raring to go!

My two daughters (age 9 &11) attended the beginners crocket course having previously tried to learn on line. The teacher was lovely, she demonstrated the various stitches one at a time and gave them simple analogies to make it easier to remember. The girls soon got the hang of it and with her guidance learnt 3 stitches overall. She showed them how to make their simple samples into useful, decorative items and gave them hints for other things to make. I would thoroughly recommend the course.

Easter themed clay modelling at Hobbycraft Edinburgh was great. My 5-year old loved it and was really happy with the little creatures she made. Well led and good materials provided. Have been to a few of these type of sessions before and have enjoyed them all. Good value at £5 for 45 min activity plus materials and direction.

Our first experience of these Hobbycraft children's workshops, it was fabulous with my 4 year old granddaughter. We made wonderful clay animals under the perfect guidance of the member of staff. Such fun. Will definitely look at repeating. Thank you.

Great workshop, wasn’t sure what to expect but was better than I thought. The lady leading it was lovely. Very friendly & helpful & we didn’t feel rushed at all. We got to make 2 clay animals. We’ll hopefully be back for another workshop in the summer holidays.

Emily was very helpful and patient with me. She showed me the different aspects of my sewing machine, giving me hands on experience of how to use the different stitches, how to do a buttonhole and sewing on a button. How to change the foot and do some free embroidery. Emily also helped me understand the importance of getting the tension right for different weights of material. All in all a very positive experience and good value for money.

I was disappointed by this class. The equipment provided was unsuitable for use. The scissors were rusty and did not cut appropriately, the glue provided did not stick the materials together, there was not enough materials (craft foam, glue gems etc.) at the start of the class so the staff member had to keep leaving to get more. Very little instruction/guidance was given. The staff member "leading" the activity was not the most welcoming and at times provided conversation that was perhaps not the most suitable for a childrens class. In the end my daughter left with a craft similar to advertised and we were content with the final result. Therefore I am not requesting a refund. However the general experience was disappointing and not as expected.

I learned how to use sewing machine.
Good to see how to thread needle, insert and fill bobbin, change needle and foot. Learned about tension and all the different stitches. Gave buttonholes a try and some embroidery. Good value for money to get started. Nice calm patient mentor

Really great class for beginners. Knowledgeable teacher (Emma) who was able to cater for me being left handed. We started from scratch, how to tie a slip know then a chain stitch, double and treble crochet and even a little time at the end on how to start a magic circle. Really well paced. Location is in the wool corner and was great, out of the way for most. Would thoroughly recommend this for those wanting to start to crochet with no previous experience .

I enjoyed the class, which I was the only person taking part and so was delighted that it still ran. The tutor was excellent and very patient and was also excellent at giving tips to help with painting the wooden figures etc. The kit was excellent and contained enough stuff to make more refillable bobbles. I also asked for guidance on buying a glue gun which she gave and told me where to find it in the shop . I would certainly go to another course run by Hobbycraft . (this was the first one I had been at )

Great wee workshop the kids had fun making all sort of Halloween stuff, spiders, pumpkins ghosts and what ever they had left over they used there imagination to make what they like. The women in charge of the workshop was great with the interaction and keeping the kids happy with what they wanted. Only thing that stopped it being great was that two of us had been booked for a 1 to 1 session and there was confusion about bringing our own work. Having said that the manager and our teacher handled it politely and satisfactorily. I got all my questions answered and managed to Improve my crocheting. A very enjoyable and informative session. I would recommend.

Carolyn (Esinburgh Fort) was a welcoming and patient teacher and clearly knowledgeable in sewing. She explained the basics carefully and we worked together to practice the lesson.

As a beginner we covered the machine parts, how to thread a bobbin and needle, practiced driving skills and she shared lots of top tips on novice projects. She took the time to show me where useful items were in the shop (no pushy sales) so that I'd have all thr right bits to get going at home.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend a 1:1 lesson.

Stephanie was brilliant. She took her time with us, didn't rush us even when we had a tonne of questions. She was very patient knowing we were disabled and needed more time to work the Sawgrass. She was an absolute gem, plus we got to take home our wee project we completed when we finished. Only annoyance was Hobby Craft not having the full Sawgrass membership so the majority of images are not available, so limited choices for designs. Regardless, thanks to stephanie's help we purchased the Sawgrass.

My 11 year old daughter and I attended an afternoon 'Introduction to Crochet' Class at Hobbycraft, The Fort, Edinburgh. There were 5 participants in total and we were in a quiet upstairs space away from the hustle and bustle of the main shop entrance. The tutor was enthusiastic, appeared experienced in all matters crotchet and was extremely patient with everyone. We were all given our welcome packs comprising of 2 balls of chunky wool, a crochet hook (size 8) and a set of instructions (these were more for taking home afterwards). We were taught how to create a slip knot to get us started and 3 different 'stitches'; plenty of time was given to practice and also to ask questions. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the class and have both had a wee practise since. Just from this session we feel we could make a variety of simple items, including placemats, coasters and warm headbands for the winter! This was our first Hobbycraft course and we booked it when there was a discount code, however it would be well worth the full price. We are now eyeing up a future 'Granny Squares' session!

Stephanie was very helpful - she knew intuitively what material settings to try. I am working with very thin pure gold foil that I have made myself so finding the right cutter and material setting is crucial. I would highly recommend this one to one session. Great value for money too. Thanks

I realise it’s hard to teach crochet but felt she didn’t explain the process very well. It would have been handy to have the print out to refer to during the class.

I would have liked to be shown how to increase and decrease but there wasn’t time. Maybe the class should be 2 hours instead of one and a half hours?

Teacher was very good but the venue had a a lot of drawbacks. Were in main shoping floor, so no privacy. Of more significance there was no seating so I had to stand for an hour which was uncomfortable. Instructor answered most of my questions and helped me get to grips with my Joy. It was well organised with materials (2 balls of wool and a crochet hook) and a printed version of the instructions we received all in a cotton tote bag for us to take away at the end. The teacher - Ailidh - took us step by step through the process of making a foundation chain and then progressed on to some of the basic stitches giving us the time to do samples of each. She didn't try to overload us with too many instructions so those we shall have to get by attending another class or watching U Tube videos or reading a book. I felt it was good value for money.

Emma was excellent for our group of 4 beginners - she was extremely patient! She explained what we were to do in detail and spent time with each of us as we progressed at different speeds. 2 lovely thick balls of wool and a hook in a canvas tote bag provided.

What an fabulous way to spend an hour. The teacher was superb and very thoughtful as to how she presented the class, giving lots of handy tips for when we try it at home. The pictures I did as part of the course were diverse and will look amazing hung on the wall. She guided me through three different pouring methods and was genuinely enthusiastic about how they looked. I was really pleased with the results. I really enjoyed the class. 1-1 Sewing machine workshop with Emily was excellent. I hadn't used a sewing machine since the 1980's in high school, Emily was patient and showed me the basics then helped me with a project I had brought along. As I have a midi machine I asked if the tuition could be shown on this type of machine Emily was more than happy to do this. Fantastic workshop and store provided excellent facilities. This was my first workshop at Hobbycraft - I'm really pleased with the final product but as a beginner I felt there could have been more guidance from the instructor. The kit we were using was different from what was advertised due to delivery issues, though in fact I think I prefer the overall look of ours much better.

The tutor explained at the beginning what techniques would be covered and how the materials provided would be used. Examples were provided of the techniques and the tutor checked understanding regularly and whether or not there were questions.

The area for the workshop could have been better signposted as other customers interrupted the workshop on a few occasions to ask about products in the shop.

The materials did provide value for a beginners course, however, the cost of the workshops could be reduced by offering the paint pouring pack at a reduced price for those who wanted it, and having a communal set of paints for the workshop rather than everyone having an individual pack. This would also result in less waste.

I was able to get an idea of the paint consistency, understand the techniques involved in paint pouring and see what the canvas would like with the the different layers of paint. I enjoyed seeing how the paint moved on the canvas and the effects. The tutor, Ailidh, had already explained these, therefore, it was a pleasure to achieve different effects. The tutor also made it clear that it would take time for the canvases to dry and I am looking forward to deeing what results.

I had a wonderful lesson with Emma. I was the only one in the class and she was more than happy to answer all my questions. I not only learnt about the bunting but I can now crochet chevrons. I have practiced at home and had great success. The yarn was lovely colours. I felt cotton would be more suitable for bunting, although that might be more expensive. Great value and great teacher. The tutor was extremely helpful and ran a relaxed and informative workshop. She provided lots of useful tips for the activity which enabled me to get the most out of the workshop.

The workshop space was fine for the numbers for this particular workshop and the time it was run but might not be so comfortable if there were a lot of people attending and the shop was busy.

The kit included in the price was useful and meant the workshop was good value for money.

Great tutor at Fort Kinnaird and amazing materials to take away. Lots of hints and tips. Only downside was the class is held on the shop floor and passing shoppers were a distraction.

Loved the class! Teacher was helpful and chatty. Lot was great. Location was in shop.
Lost a star as the shops aircon was freezing and was told we couldn’t adjust temperature. Actually caught a cold.
Pack was great- could do with adding a pair of £1 scissors in.

Carolyn was knowledgeable and keen to help me get the hang of this surprisingly tricky craft (or maybe that was just me). Her efforts were however hampered by the craft box supplied not being quite right. We didn't let these issues stop us though and I enjoyed the session.

I was lucky enough to have 1:1 attention in my session. My instructor was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. She encouraged me to make mess and helped me clear up afterwards! I'd recommend this hour of fun to anyone - just be open to enjoying yourself. The kit provided is great value and well designed. I'd definitely recommend this course and I am looking for other crafts courses now.

A big thank you to my tutor Stephanie, she certainly gave me a good grip of how to work with vinyls and apply to a bottle.
I’m not the greatest with technology but she certainly put it over in a way that I could really understand and anything I was not quite sure of she went over it again. Great patience. I will certainly give another class a go as I found this so helpful and certainly worth every penny.

I had a lesson with Emily today and she was absolutely great. She answered all my questions with patience and explained anything I didn't understand no matter how trivial they seemed. Emily then helped me sew a drawstring bag which has been my goal and I'm so chuffed with it! She also checked that I knew all the basics for setting a machine up and the commonly used 'tools'. I picked up so many little tricks from her too. Thank you so much Emily!

Stephanie and Kayleigh were very knowledgeable and clearly knew their way around Cricut systems. Perhaps giving them access to internet / Cricut Access would help. Having the class on the shop floor meant interruptions from customers who were unaware a class was in progress.

Teacher was great, really informative and knew her stuff. As a complete novice, she was patient, and answered my questions clearly.

At the end of the session, again the teacher was very helpful and showed us the full range of machines and accessories and waited until we were finished.

I would highly recommend these workshops; I do not like Zoom or YouTube because I always, always have questions. Thanks again and I will be looking out for more in the future.

If there is one downer, that was that we had to stand; I would have preferred to sit at the long table with chairs, set out behind us and empty throughout our workshop. However, that does not detract from a good session and I left with a clear idea of what I needed to do to get up and running.

There wasn’t any teaching, this was an hour just spent practising brush lettering. Good items supplied, (pens, bleedproof A4 pad, notebook and gift tags) but the “specially designed course” really just consisted of the alphabet on lined card for you to copy/practise, which you can find on the internet and do at home just as easily. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy sitting for a peaceful hour, practising and chatting to the friendly and artistic Hobbycraft assistant - I did - but I didn’t learn anything I’m afraid. Was also a bit sad to see the poor use of spelling/grammar on the alphabet cards. Couldn’t someone competent have looked over this before printing?
I love Hobbycraft products, but this workshop didn’t represent the good value I’ve come to expect from Hobbycraft.

The workshop was good value for money, with lots of different products available to use. I would have preferred to have more instructions on how to do the craft - I know it was fairly self explanatory but would have been good to have more hints and tips.

The workshop was really good. I was the only one in the group so I had plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The contents of the pack were amazing and high quality. However I would have liked slightly longer as an hour only really allowed time to complete the worksheets with the shapes and letters and start to work out your style. It would have also helped to have the Example letters on both the left and the right sides of the worksheets.

Really enjoyed this Fluid Art Workshop. The teacher was very good and informative. The venue was fine. We had plenty room to lay out our materials. The premixed paints worked well and we were able to get cells to form in our art. I bought some extra paints to supplement the ones provided in the kit as I have a large project in mind!

(I think we could have perhaps benefited from having more than the one pair of scissors between the five of us though.)
