Throughout the year, Hobbycraft host a variety of workshops in stores and online, designed to give everyone the opportunity to master a new craft or refine a long-time favourite. Whether you want to enjoy crafting from the comfort of your own home or you’re looking to meet new people as you get making, these craft workshops offer something for everyone.

Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class. The teacher gave clear instructions and provided lots of support. She focused on two types of crochet stitch. The venue was very suitable and I liked the materials provided, especially the little carrier bag!

Teacher could have been more interactive with the children. Also it was hard to hear her so the children did not know what they were supposed to do. She did help them on an individual basis but difficult to get round a group of 15. Our own leaders had to step in.

The beginners crochet workshop was excellent. I was a complete beginner who had never attempted to crochet before. The teacher was very patient and ensured that all the attendees were confident at each step before moving on and she was very helpful. I think the work shops are great value for money with the teaching time and a bag of goodies (two gorgeous balls of yarn and a crochet hook) to take home to keep practicing.
I feel confident now in the basic stitches and I am excited to continue crocheting!

The class was to bring along a sewing machine purchased in hobbycraft & to assist you with getting ur sewing underway.
This 1 to 1 was perfect for me. It was on a level I understood. Taking into account things I already knew & providing training & assistance with gaps in my knowledge. As it was on my own machine, I left feeling fully confident in undertaking the projects I had in mind.

The teacher, Eileen, was very helpful and informative. I booked a session because I hadn’t sewed in years and was not confident about starting again. Eileen was encouraging and we picked out a simple pattern and then material suitable. Very positive experience. The one to one session with a knowledgeable sewer, was excellent value for money.

Aileen our teacher was very welcoming and helpful. She gave us lots of tips and demonstrated how to use the glue gun etc. We were there for a day out and to make a spring wreath. The materials provided were suitable for the task. It was a fun afternoon with lots of time for a chat while crafting. Well worth the money and I will certainly recommend this class to other friends.

Great class, our teacher was very friendly and took us step by step through everything. (Apologies I don't remember her name) the starter pack is fab and lots left over to try at home.
It was a gift to me so I didn't pay but I'd say it was very good value for money.

Unfortunately the disco ball handle broke once we had covered it with clay and put rubies on it. In fact the remaining balls in the packet all had faulty string handles and broke as well. Very poor quality. Aileen thankfully found a way to sort the problem and glued ribbon with a glue gun at the top. It wouldn’t be something I’d do at home with him unless the disco balls were stronger to hold. It was a pity as the ball made from last year on display looked fabulous. Thank you for your patience Aileen.

George enjoyed this session and created some aliens using air drying clay. Tess was very attentive and she extended the lesson for us as we were late arriving. However, I thought the models he was to make were very complicated for his age. A bit too tricky even for an adult to create. But he really enjoyed the session with Tess. We always do. Tess is so patient and is very creative.

Aileen was great she explained everything very clearly. The venue was fine . I didn't need any materials with me as I needed instruction on how to best use the machine for basic sewing. I've been able to go home and make a reversible tote bag and some Christmas envelope cushion covers! Amazing considering I haven't made anything from I was at school thanks Aileen ☺️

I noticed while reading through the reviews that some workshops seemed to include pens. I bought some inshore to complete the project.

teacher good - good few bits included in the box for the wreath
disappointed not to be given the glue gun in the box like I was given for the Easter one - the line about the prices/costs going up didn't wash as the workshop was no cheaper with out the glue gun!

MU grandson enjoyed the class but as there were only 2 children there wasn't much conversation. My grandson wanted yellow paint but there was none and I felt it should have been supplied from the shelves. Will certainly be attending other suitable workshops - good value.

It was very beneficial and I learnt how to thread the sewing machine and bobbin which was my goal for that class. Advice given was useful to me. Teacher was clear but sewing machine was misbehaving at times regarding the tension. All in all the time flew by and it was very interesting and the teacher was helpful. I enjoyed the class.

I took the session as I was looking to buy a new machine. The one I had was at least 40 years old as I had inherited it from my mother in law and it gave me a chance to see how a modern machine functions and confidence that it would give me what I needed. The instructor was friendly and knowledgable and tailored the session to my needs

A very enjoyable class and a great teacher. The materials provided were excellent and the artisan went above my expectations providing me with silicon pads while using the cute little glue gun. I felt I could go at my pace and was able to finish it at home with materials left over. Value for money and have a lovely decoration for my house.

My son and I really enjoyed the clay workshop today. This was his first time using clay and the member of staff was excellent at demonstrating and assisting him in making the pots. She took an an active role within the 1 hour session and had his full attention. Thank you so much. ❤️

My son enjoyed the session although only himself at it, no other children attended. The art leader didn’t take much of an interest in the task or my son. She seemed very distant. I tried asking her several questions but she didn’t really respond. Perhaps she was too shy. I am a teacher myself of primary school age and would engage with my students when teaching Art. I have another session booked for Saturday so will be interesting to see if there is an improvement.

Aileen was our teacher and she was great. I was able to bring my friend with me and she showed us both at the same time. Aileen was very very helpful and answered all our questions. I no thought the venue was fine and Aileen showed us how to print and put together a project. We were learning about design space for the cricut joy. I will certainly be coming back for another class when I get to grips with the easier projects. I would definitely and have recommended Aileen to friends.

Went to this class with my 2 daughters (10 & 12). We all loved it, my kids are very shy but felt very much at home with Beth.
All materials provided and loads left for more projects at home.
Our teacher Beth was lovely. We made 2 pictures each and have 3 more canvases to work on at home.
Everything in the set including a drip tray to keep the mess to a minimum.

It was good but not the best craft activity we’ve done there. Miss Olivia is a wonderful patient teacher, and we all enjoyed ourselves.

The key rings will likely only be displayed for this season, whereas many of the other craft workshop output is still proudly on display.

Loved this class, we had 12 baubles, 6 small and 6 large. Inks, base and beakers were provided. We had so much fun exploring techniques and effects. Very pleased with the results. I shall go home and replace the string with the silver satin ribbon, also provided, and place them on my tree when we put it up. Highly recommended by me.

The teacher was very helpful and tried to demonstrate the range of things the Cricut Joy was able to cut and also highlighting some of the differences between the Joy and the other larger Cricut machines. She showed me how to make an insert card, a transfer vinyl as well a small tag with writing and cutting on. It was a very useful workshop and helped me decide if the Cricut Joy was right for me. Had a great introduction to machine sewing with Sarah. Got to know my machine as same model available for the lesson. Was taken through all the parts and shown how to change needles and feet. Taken through winding a bobbin and how to correctly insert in the machine. Shown how to thread then got to do it myself. Taken through stitches and tension and given the chance to try a few different options. Well worth the money and Sarah was knowledgeable and encouraging have came away more confident in using my machine

Good Cricut workshop. I was told to bring projects I needed help with. Aileen is a friendly, welcoming person, putting me at ease. She knows her equipment & materials. She was able to set me on the right road. I wanted help with cutting ply wood shapes, making stencils & a cake topper. So we were able to cover a lot in the hour. Would not hesitate to book again if I needed help with another project. Very happy.

The kids loved this wee workshop. It was a pretty simple wee idea and easily replicated at home. The girl running the class was called Emma and she was great with the kids, My little one actually commented after the she had served us in store one day and remembered a little exchange they had had (and that was probably months ago so she clearly left a a great impression on her!)

We were booked in for dinosaur fossils workshop, we were the only ones there today- some the fossils were mad quickly. The time was filled making some sea creatures. My son is feeling super proud of his new creations.

A great workshop & Colin was a great teacher. It was a one-to-one workshop which I wasn't expecting. The workshop took place at a work table in the shop, it was quite nice that other customers could stop & have a look at what we were doing. I was given a kit which included a frame with monks cloth attached, a punch needle, 5 balls of wool and a picture / template to copy. It started with me having to draw the picture onto the cloth, after seeing me panic, Colin thankfully offered to draw it for me. I was taught how to thread the needle & get started, how to end, change colours fill in spaces and given many helpful tips to help me complete the picture. Altogether I really enjoyed this class, it was really fun & relaxing and definitely worth the money. I have my punch needle kit home & am looking forward to completing it.

Quite surprised today, the class was a one to one. The young lady was very knowledgeable and friendly. I can watercolour, but I believe that you still need lessons. Great class today and Aileen the instructor was very knowledgable and helpful. The kit had everything needed for the beginners project and definately enjoyed the experience. The class could be a bit longer so that you can do all the techniques because if you dont know anything about the topic it can take a while to fully grasp them.

Really enjoyed my class with Sasha. She was very enthusiastic, friendly and taught me new skills. It was a 1:1 session - maximum class size is 2:1 - ensuring plenty of individual attention. Was able to complete two flags 9f the bunting and I'll be able to finish it at home. Plenty of materials were provided- enough to make several strings of bunting.

Kids get to pick a canvas from the store stock, and the staff provided paints and paintbrushes for them. There were a good number of paint brushes available, with different thicknesses of tips for the broad strokes down to the fine detail.

Best part is - they did all the cleanup of a painting activity

All 4 children, ages from 4-8 had a blast and proudly showed off their creations at the end.

There’s no painting “instruction” in the course, but the staff provide oversight, encouragement, and the materials needed.

Children were allowed to pick their own ceramic money box to paint, which was great! Key items you needed was in the kit (paintbrush + 6 paint colors).

However, unlike other classes where instruction was given, this “class” was just a staff member sitting at the table with them + parent observing them paint. So, only real difference was that it wasn’t at my kitchen table

The class was very useful because the maker does NOT come with good print materials. Although everything is online, there were some things which it would have been good to know such as the storage compartment in the machine, the difference between one tool being in the machine and the other with the box. These questions were addressed with the workshop.

The teacher was quite knowledgeable and was well prepared for the workshop. I would definitely recommend her and the workshop.

My 9 year old and I attended the class in Belfast. Our teacher was Clare who was lovely and very helpful. She was very patient with us as we are complete beginners.
We definitely learnt alot from this 1 hour course and will book again for another workshop once we get going with the sewing!

On arrival my daughter was given a box beautifully wrapped with a range of different crafts and colours. We made three cards. The teacher was fabulous and very nice and encouraging to the kids. I will be booking again and I highly recommend this!

It was outstanding. The instructor was very knowledgeable andprovided the information that I needed. I would definitely attend another session given by this instructor.

There are however a couple of problems with the workshops given at the Boucher road location.

The booking software is problematic in that on one place it sa ys if the workshop is full you can go and sign up on the waiting list.

The b much bigger problem is the LACK of toilets for customers.

Aileen was fantastic, very knowledgeable. Very skilled in her craft. Not only did I enjoy the workshop but I enjoyed the interaction.
The workshop is in the centre of the store and we did get interrupted even though their was signs up. Aileen apologised and directed the customer to another colleague. Very professionally handled.
The store is light and airy.
I learnt so much on my 1-1 and recommend doing a workshop, I went in feeling quite overwhelmed but came out excited to try my explore air 2.

A very enjoyable class and I’m very happy with my Christmas wreath! Sophie was a very friendly and helpful teacher. The kits provided were lovely with plenty of embellishments for our wreaths. The only problem was the space to work was very limited with 8 people on our course, spaced around one table!

Aileen was a good teacher who wasn’t fazed by demonstrating Design Space & Cricut Maker 3 from behind.
Some of us had specific questions for her and she answered them by demonstrating on the Cricut machine which will, hopefully, stay in our memory longer than an oral answer.
We were taught how to “slice”and also “kern” letters. A good tip from Aileen was to duplicate the image being worked on in case something went wrong and the image was lost. She also covered “hinge” layering.
The venue was pleasant except it was extremely cold - apparently the temperature in the shops is controlled by Head Office. This is why I didn’t give the class 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Wreath making workshop. I opted for the classic wreath which I feel had more bits to work with. But others really enjoyed their frosted wreaths too.

Becky who ran the workshop was lovely and very encouraging with everyone doing their own designs.

The shop is very spacious but the table was a bit tight for a full workshop however we all managed okay. Also, customer toilets would be useful when customers are there for quite a while doing workshops. There aren't any in the Belfast store.

I definitely recommend the workshop, it's great value for money too!

The materials were perfect and I was instructed in all aspects of building my wreath. The teacher, Aileen, was so knowledgeable, open, friendly and welcoming. Her expertise and vast knowledge of the Cricut was so obvious when she spoke. She wanted to know, what specific problems I had, and I had loads, and answered them all expertly!
The only hiccup for the lesson was, that some of the examples, she was trying to show, we’re only able on a laptop, and hobby craft were only using tablets which the system didn’t allow. Might be a need to replace some of the tablets with laptops to ensure further lessons can be shown fully!
My lesson was so good, the time was up, and I was still hooked on every word Aileen was telling me. I’ll probably need more lessons once I’ve actioned what I learnt today - Thank you Aileen

Had no idea what to expect but learned lots of tips for design space. I brought some problematic smart vinyl with me and my teacher worked with me and and gave me loads of tips for weeding and transferring.

I really enjoyed the class and Jessica was very good. However there was no instruction booklet for the heavy duty machine we were using. Jessica was clever and did YouTube how to complete the button hole I wanted to do. I brought thick fabric to use with the machine and I was pleased with the performance of the sewing machine.

Today I attended the workshop on the Advent Christmas house. I was met by Sophie who welcomed me to the event and showed me to my work station. She explained everything clearly and provided me with my Kit all in one box. I enjoyed the painting of the ‘house’ for the next one and a half hours and was able to take it home to finish. It was a very relaxing and fulfilling afternoon and I found the preparation and the organisation of the workshop excellent. Sophie was a brilliant teacher and put everyone at ease with her clear instructions and friendly nature. Nothing was any problem. I would be very tempted to return for another workshop as I felt it was worth the money and the venue was perfect.

Clare, my teacher was fabulous and very patient. She definitely built my confidence in a very short period of time. I learned how to use my machine, practice stitches and techniques and how to put a zip into a cushion cover. It was fab. Received a canvas with a print to paint, a blank canvas, paint brushes, and paints.

Son enjoyed it but said he didn’t really learn any techniques or hints, which he had hoped to do. But he worked away covering the canvas with color - just couldn’t paint in the small bits with the two brushes he had.

I learned more about the maker and the materials it will cut and about engraving in particular. One thing I didn't know about was the Snapmat feature to position design better. Great feature. The girl Sophie, who took the class, I can’t fault. She done her best. I thought I was booking a class with Aileen who I had spoke with while in the store and knew exactly what she was doing. I feel that I should have been told Aileen wasn’t available that day and given the chance to decide wether to go ahead with the class or not. Given that chance I would have waited until Aileen was available.
