Hard Ground Etching and Printmaking Class

You'll get plenty of expert guidance during your session from experienced tutor and printmaker, John Howard. Tap into your inner artist and come up with inspiring designs that you love using the exciting printing method of hard ground etching.

The image you want to create is etched into a metal plate using intriguing techniques and acid. You'll learn how to cover the metal plate in an acid-resistant layer known as a 'ground' and how this can be used to create drawings. Once you reveal the metal within your chosen design, the plate is immersed in acid which bites the drawn marks, leaving hollow lines that hold the ink ready for printing.

Don't worry if this is your first time in the world of printmaking. You'll get plenty of support from John as you go. It's also a great experience for those with a bit of knowledge in this art form that may want to develop their skills and make some amazing art.

The printmaking studio is surrounded by other creative businesses and has a cafe on site. It's fully wheelchair accessible and a great way to spend your day. Once this printmaking class is over, you will walk away with two or three unique handmade prints that have come from your etched plate.
