What you'll do

Looking for fun, stimulating things for kids to do at home? Log on and join in to this painting class where they'll learn a whole host of painting techniques.

In this new still-life workshop, children will learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting with simple exercises that are fun to do while giving a firm understanding of how to make a still-life drawing and painting.

The workshop will cover all the basics, starting with composition - finding the shapes, tonal work and relationships between objects. They will then be shown how to mix colour, use brushes effectively and place colour on canvas. Throughout the session, the tutor will be giving demos and working with each child individually, at their own pace, nurturing confidence and creativity.

Children of different ages and skill levels will be tutored according to their current level as well as contributing to their school coursework where desired. Kids will leave filled with newfound skills and confidence, as well as everything they've created during the class.

This workshop is ideal for beginners as well as those children building their school coursework.

What to bring

Oil or acrylic paints: i.e. red, yellow, blue and white (minimum paint selection).
A3 sketch pad.
Selection of brushes.
Palette knife.
Palette (tear-off palettes work well).
Pencil - Hb and 3b.
Eraser.
Ruler.
Charcoal (willow).
Brush cleaner.

Suitable for

My speciality is portraiture where I have created projects and commissions for private clients, collectors and institutions over the past 10 years. My work is shown regularly and I have paintings in the Modern Portraiture permanent collection at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. I also have a passion for nurturing creative talent through teaching, giving confidence and encouragement to those who wish to discover their creative self. I have taught portraiture and still life to all ages both in private studio and online classes as well as on BA Fine Art, Diploma and Foundation courses in educational institutions. I believe everyone has the ability to be creative and learn skills in drawing and painting. I believe it is crucial to our development and sense of wellbeing.
