The crafters' verdict…

What a great way to spend an afternoon! Loved learning how to make a silver ring; the teacher was excellent, there was lots of help on hand, and the tools and equipment were plentiful. I came away happy having accomplished a lovely wee ring!

I also like the ethos of the school, which uses some of the course money to teach people less fortunate and allow them to also have the opportunity to enjoy the same sense of achievement. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends and family. Many thanks for a brilliant afternoon! Fiona Campbell

Get those hands dirty with the London Sculpture Workshop

For the artist in your life (or even someone who needs a new hobby), London Sculpture Workshop is a game-changer. Their workshops let people play with metalwork, ceramics, and casting in a professional studio – how cool is that? Whether it’s crafting a one-of-a-kind sculpture or just having a blast learning something new, this is an experience day they’ll never forget.

And because the London Sculpture Workshop is all about championing creative education, your gift also supports a space that nurtures local talent. So, go on, surprise someone with a present that’s as meaningful as it is hands-on!

An introduction to welding for artists class, where they’ll dive into the world of metalwork and weld their afternoon away!

The crafters' verdict…

I booked for myself as I had a voucher, and it sounded really cool and not something I'd normally be able to do. The teacher is great, he's super knowledgable and very safety focused. I was a bit worried as I was the only girl in the class but he put me very much at ease.

We learnt the different types of welding first, and the science of how to weld two pieces of metal together, and then had a go with the equipment. It was mostly piecing random bits together to practice, but I also made myself an 'E' which I'm pretty proud of – and is now sitting on my desk! It was really amazing having access to the workshop, and I'm also considering going to the open workshops on Thursdays or Fridays to learn a bit more and try to make actual stuff! Eden Sparke

Food is love, and there’s no better way to share the joy than with a cooking class at Leeds Cookery School. These Christmas present experiences are perfect for anyone who loves to whip up a storm in the kitchen – or those who wish they could! From bread-baking to global cuisine workshops, these classes are as delicious as they are fun.

The cherry on top? Profits go towards local community projects, so every stir, chop, and taste test makes a difference. Why give a box of chocolates when you can gift a lifetime of culinary skills (and maybe score an invite to their next dinner party)?

Why it’s a gift with heart…

Leeds Cookery School are basically angels in aprons; they donate 100% of their profits to local Leeds charity, Zest, who support people living in disadvantaged areas of the city with education and access to food. The cooking school also runs affordable cooking classes throughout the year, which enable vulnerable and low-income families to master cooking skills and beat social isolation.

On top of that, they take the issue of sustainability super seriously; classes use local, seasonal ingredients, they work hard to keep wastage down and try to minimise the food miles travelled by their ingredients. Tasty, good for the planet and great for the community – a win-win-win!

A taste of Japan cooking class, where they’ll whip up a variety of small plates and sit down to enjoy them after the workshop.

The crafters' verdict…

The teacher Scott and the staff were exceptional! Very professional, but friendly and encouraging, and the venue was very accessible for all.

All the ingredients were provided, and Scott taught us to make Japanese gyozas, katsu curry with breaded pork, sticky rice and tempura veg. It was amazing food which tasted superb, and we all sat to eat together with a beer or lemonade. We will return and recommend it highly! Ghislaine Cross

A mosaic making class, where they’ll get to immerse themselves in a vibrant world of colour and pattern, and learn how to bring their design ideas to life.

The crafters' verdict…

We came to the mosaic tile making class for a work team social, and everyone LOVED it. Natti was an incredible teacher, not only showing us the tools and materials but also helping us develop different ideas for our designs. The space itself is gorgeous, full of inspiration, and the fact that all the profit goes back into the Art4Space community is lovely.

We were offered a range of drinks (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) and snacks, and the materials on offer are amazing. Such a range of different glass and ceramic tiles, which really allowed the team to explore different designs and concepts. I would recommend this workshop to anyone and everyone! Thank you so much Art4Space and a big thank you to Natti, you were the best! Sydney
